Default Any Night Sight Recommendations for Home Defense and EDC

I'm looking at getting some night sights for my M&P 40c and a M&P full size 9mm. I'm new to the night sight thing and not sure what would be my best option. The 40c is my everyday carry self defense weapon and the FS 9mm is my mother in laws home defense pistol. I noticed Trijicon makes their HD model and a model called Bright & Tough not sure what the difference is. Is one better over the other for daylight or night? Is one more durable or last longer than the other? What model would be best for our pistols? Again I'm new to this and have never shot a pistol with night sights so your input would be greatly appreciated. Also are there any other brands we should consider? I was told by quite a few people that Trijicon are the best that's why we were thinking of going with them.

Look at the Truglo TFO's. They are fiber optic front and rear so they glow in day light but have tritium in them so they glow at night. They will run around $153 but if you look you can get them cheaper. I just put a set on my FS 9 and love them.

Yeah those look great, I remember hearing about those now I just didn't know if they were any good. But after your feedback I'd have to say they're a winner! Much better price as well! Any recommendation on all 3 dots green or rear yellow front green?

Here's my write up on the TFOs that I put on my .45: TruGlo Tritium Fiber Optic(TFO) sights

I much prefer the yellow in the rear. They don't glow quite as bright as the green. They still are easy to see, but the bright green just pulls your eye to it and that is a good thing for defensive shooting.

Another Vote for the TFO's have 2 sets, Yellow/Green. Mine were not as expensive as quoted above, if you go to Brownell's they are about $119.99, if you have a business acount with them I think they are $101.00. I just checked they are in stock, go to handgun sight sets and they are on page 2 the first set of TFO's on page 1 are for Glocks.
Shoot gotta go wash my mouth out for saying that name!

They might be a little pricier than the TFO's but I absolutely love the Trijicon HD sights! Blacked out rear sight makes aquiring the bright yellow or orange front sight very easy and quick. I have them on my FS M&P9 Pro and M&P9c.

I was wondering when someone would put in a vote for the Trijicons! I'm still seriously considering these and I really like the HD's. Nice stippling job on those they look SWEET!!! I have the Micro90 light on my M&P 40c as well along with the CT laser grip that I just got a week ago.

A number of the guys at my LGS like the TFO's and they are nice and very good sight upgrades but after trying out the Trijicons I am putting them on all of my handguns. I liked them so much better.

If you really like the stippling then talk to Aaron at A2 Stippling. Awesome product at a great price! I highly recommend his stuff!

I had Truglo TFO's green front and yellow rear and switched to Trijicon HDs with green front. My eyes seem to prefer green. I like the Trijicon HD's better for the same reason jayman stated. For me, the bigger U-shaped rear and larger front dot makes it faster to get a picture. However, my groups were a lot tighter with the Truglos but that was not important to me on this pistol.

Do they make the Truglo TFO's for the Shield yet?

My partner has Trijicon's on his duty Glock and I have Meprolights on mine. Both are over 12 years old and still bright. They are both to be considered.

This is a good point and I did think about that before I installed the TFO sights. So, let's think about this for a moment.

Which is more important in a self defense gun, sight acquisition and sight alignment or racking with one hand? Personally, I think sight acquisition and alignment is paramount. It is something you'll use every time you fire the gun. Racking with one hand is something that will be rare.

The factory rear sight allows racking with one hand easily. It's actually quite nice for that. Same with the Trijicon sights. The TFOs, not so much. Even so, it can be done with the TFOs. It just takes a little more effort.

For me, the TFOs are just so much better when it comes to sight acquisition and alignment that it out weighs racking with one hand.

For the record, I have a set of Trijicon Tritium sights on my Ed Brown. So, I have the ability to make a real comparison. The TFOs are much better.

I put XS Big Dot sights on my carry pistols (FS9 and Shield9), and could not be happier. YouTube is a great source for reviews and visuals on all of these varying options.

The Trijicon HD's are not the same as the Trijicon Tritium sights. I found the opposite to be true and went with the HD's over the TFO's because it was easier and quicker to acquire the front site based on their design.

I put a set of ameriglo pro I dots on my 9c and really like them. I went for the rounded rear sight groove instead of the square so the dot would sit in it better. The orange outline is very easy to pick up in daylight.
