Default Which Remora holster for M&P Shield?

First, let me say I have searched the forum and read what has already been said on the matter.

According to their website, it calls for the 6 ART. What does the ART stand for? I see some people go with the 6, 6 ART and even a #4.

I'm looking to carry on the right hand side and would like a sweat shield.

Photos?

Experience?

Which one is correct for the gun?

Thanks.

The ART stands for "artimus" and it basically means it has a deeper profile on the "draw" side allowing a better grasp of the grip when drawing the pistol. I use the 4ART left-hand version with a sweat shield for my Beretta Nano and think it is a great holster. I also have a 6 OWB/IWB for my M&P9C. It's a little snug, but fits. It seems to me that might make the 6 a little big for the Shield, but I'd suggest following Remora's recommendation.

Do not get the 6ART with the sweatshield. I have one, and the seam of the sweatshield wraps around the rear sight, making the holster come out when drawing the firearm.

I love Remora holsters. I solved this by shoving a small piece of cloth in the bottom of the holster, to lift the rear sight up past the seam. Reason I kept it, is that I think if I ever added a laser, it would be a perfect fit. Without a sweatshield, the 6art should be fine.

I was supposed to call Remora today to discuss an alternate model to order, but got tied up. Will report back if/when I do.

I had one and sold it to a friend that wanted one due to the very same reason and mine also caught inside on the front sight as well. I could not draw from it without the holster coming out regardless of how/where I carried it. I just received my Foxx Trapp holster and couldn't be happier with it fwiw.

I too am in the hunt for the correct Remora holster for my 9mm Shield. What about the 6RFT with the re-enforced top? Also-there are two optional varients on the sweat shield, "sweat shield-$5.00" and the "full sweat shield-$10.00".
Our Shields are few and far between so if you have a Remora for yours, please weigh in.
Does anyone know the boss over at Remora? It would be great if a Remora rep would check in here and help us out.

I use the 6G-ART for my Shield9. I pocket carry mine in my right front pocket. It really works great.

I had the same problem with 6ART with the sites getting snagged

I had an old 8UC that fits perfectly, although no sweat protection

Save your money and get a real holster and not a pouch made out of material that is like nylon.

I like the Desantis fit for the Glock 26 for pocket conceal of my Shield. The material is thick enough that I can't make contact with the trigger while holstered but not too thick to make pocket conceal awkward.

It seems to me from the pictures there is too much padding for pocket conceal with the Remora?

I would like to read anyone who has used both holsters to provide an objective comparison.

Thanks

Russ

To be clear. I'm not looking for pocket carry. I don't dress baggy enough for that. I'm trying to help figure it out for a female friend of mine. I didn't decide on what she wants or how she wants to carry. I'm not one of "those" guys. I'm just trying to help figure out the proper model for the gun.

I'm pretty happy with my White Hat holster.

I am a female, so I can help. We don't wear pants with big wide beltloops every day, and have more considerations when it comes to trying to effectively conceal carry.

The Remora is indespensible, and an absolutely excellent quality and purposeful holster. You can wear a skirt and shove it in the waistband...under snug underwear, if necessary. You can move it to a purse, should the need arise. You can set it in a safe, accessible place while driving in the car. It is the most-used holster I own. I own a lot of holsters, I use a lot of holsters, and I try to wear belted holster systems as much as possible...but if we want to maintain even some of our femininity , we need alternate options.

That said, the 6ART with the sweatshield is not the answer.

I am going to call Remora now, and will report back.

Call Mike @ Remora and ask about a holster made specifically for the M&P Shield. There is a thread going over at Defensive Carry about a guy who was not happy with the 6ART; he called Remora and they custom made him one that works perfectly for the Shield. I'm hoping to get one too.

I never got through today. Called but the phone was answering and no one there. Sent an email, but nothing. Good to hear about the custom holster. Maybe they will just start producing it and we'll all be good to go.

I have not heated it up with a hair dryer and wrapped the pistol with a hankecheif yet to fit it. But this one is for a Kahr MK40. I have been carrying it for a couple days in this holster. It will fit a little deeper into the holster once heated. I can jam it in but don't think thats a good idea. You can fit guns to these with heat, insert the gun deep into it while hot, then throw it in the freezer for 5 min. This one has the Kydex reinforced top and the sweat shield. I really like these holsters for comfort and function.

I have the Remora 6ART with sweatshield, not the full sweatshield. I have not had a problem drawing from the remora at all, I wear it with a belt or no belt, but I don't wear real loose clothing either. The Remora is comfortable and very concealable. I trade off the the N82 pro, very comfortable, but I think a little thick.

The issue with the 6ART for the Shield is the opposite. It is too deep. But yes, the hair dryer/freezer method works great for stretching!

The one I pictured is the 3B with the reinforced top and right side sweat shield. Once heated and fitted it should fit well, I have several of their holsters. I bought it for my Kahr MK40, I purchased the pistol because I cold not get my hands on a 40 Shield for a decent price, then I found one locally for 429.00, before the Kahr even arrived, dumb luck. So now I have two more 40's added to the stable. Both shoot well, you would not belive how accuate the Kahr is for such a small pistol, it is about the size of an LCP in .40, you would think it would not be very accurate and kick like a mule. Not the case, it is all stainless, hefty weight at 25oz empty, and more tame than you might think.

You have never worn a Remora then, you can barely tell its their after wearing it a few minutes. Placement is never an issue either. Cant it, place it werever you want. How deep do you like your firearm to ride? you can do whatever you want with one of them. Try one out, they are cost effective as well.
Love my Remora holsters.

Thanks, Dino! I don't like being able to peek at that trigger though. Sounds like maybe the 4 could work. It's weird, Remora emailed me last week, asked me to call so they could solve the 6ART problem, and now I can't reach them. The phone answers, but no one on the other end, and no email response. Bizarre, as this is not typical for them at all!

zotzer,
I got through yesterday, a lady answered the phone, I asked to speak with Mike, She put me on hold, came back on and said he was with a customer and asked if I wanted his voice mail. Instead I requseted his personal e-mail address and received it and sent him an e-mail re:information on the latest Remora holster design for the M&P Shield. I checked my e-mail this a.m. and nothing yet-that's o.k. at this point.
The Remora website states that they take phone calls 9am-2pm (Florida time) mon through fri.

The OP of that thread kept finding his mag released due to the holster laying right on the release button. He had the reinforced model, but not sure that was causing it. So he called Remora and Mike offered to make him a custom holster just for the Shield. He posted pictures that show how it does not cover the mag release, and as a bonus it covers the slide all the way to the back on the side facing the wearer. I was really interested in the same holster because of how it covered the slide--my 6ART allows the back corner of the slide and the rear sights to poke me in the side sometimes. Try to take a look on Defensive Carry thread because he posted some great photos over there.

Super grippy "fabric" on the outside. Leather inside optional?

Also probably most of our guns are plastic anyway, why do you care if they sit in "fabric" instead of leather. My leather/kydex holster must be a complete abomination then.

Never heard of Mike but have dealt with Alan for quite a while. I got a few of them sent to me since they were never quite right for my shield and he ended up making it custom for me. This was when the Shield first released. Surprised to see they still are having issues with this fit. Wonder where Alan is? I have several of the extras they sent sitting in my holster drawer, 2 they sent fit the Compact fine *which I use for my 9c*. Hope you all get this nailed down.

Default Taking my Remora back

Picked up a 6ART for my shield yesterday and am returning it today.I liked the idea of a holster I could use IWB or pockect. However the 6ART is too deep for the shield and you can't get to the safety without partially drawing and when I tried it in my pocket the holster came more tham half out of the pocket before it released the gun.I will try some other numbers when I take it back and post if I find anything that works.

I have a Remora for my 4.5" XDm and really love it. I got the ART with sweatshield and have no issues drawing, even with my TFOs, which are quite a bit larger than the stock sights. They seem (from all the reading I did on DefensiveCarry) to have good customer service - I'd absolutely be willing to give them a call if I was unhappy. The holster is super handy and comfortable. I plan on getting another when I pick up a 9c.

I've also been it touch with Mike @ Remora and today, he is shipping me the newly designed holster for the Shield. I'll wear it around awhile and post back.

Shield pictured in the Remora 6ART. Purchased holster 6 months ago and while the Remora has seen little use (EDC is in a Minotaur), it does appear to be a very good fit.

I'm looking to carry on the right hand side and would like a sweat shield.

Photos?

Experience?

Which one is correct for the gun?

Thanks.
I personally would not be interested in trusting my carry gun to a holster that allegedly stays put without anything by friction because the material is "tacky" or whatever.

This type of IWB holster is for people who do not really intend to carry much. No serious person would use one.

I looked into these after "anonymous girl" (she won't show her face or give her name, "falia" maybe) showed them on a video her web site. It might work as a pocket holster, but I would not depend on it for real carry.

If the bulk of a belt loop bothers you on an IWB, then get one of Paul Giannaula's IWB holsters. Try PJ Holster.

To each, his own.

I am a pretty serious guy. I have a Remora holster that I use for my Glock 19 and M&P9c.

I can assure you, it does stay put. These holsters are inexpensive and extremely comfortable for IWB carry.

There are other videos reviews on youtube from other people that will say the same thing.

YMMV.

In my yesterday's e-mail from Mike at Remora, he is still referring to the new holster as a "6ART RFT". The "RFT" stands for "Re-enforced Top". I received a shipping conformation this afternoon so I should receive it in the next couple of days.
From what I understand it will not look like the photos posted by FAIR_CHASE as that is the old style that covers the sharp eged Shield rear sight.

FWIW ......... as hard as I have tried, it is not possible to snag the rear sight with the Ramora in the picture.

It does not have the sweat shield.

The sweat shield version is higher on the skin-side of the holster. Where the transition from low to high happens, it forms a pocket that snags the corner of the rear sight.

That's an unfair statement. I carry every day, and can promise, I am quite serious.

You can believe it or not, but as you have never used one, everyone should take that opinion for what it is worth.

I DO use one (among many types of holsters). They stay put, as advertised and attested to by many. Frankly, the N82 Pro on a belt shifts around more on my body than a Remora when getting in and out of the car, and similar situations. Now, I wouldn't run around with one in a pair of pajamas and expect much, but with properly fitting clothes, the holster works as advertised.

As a woman, I can wear a beltless skirt with some pantyhose and the Remora, and that pistol stays safely wherever I put it. (Women have special wardrobe challenges, and our clothes do not always accomodate a 1 1/2" thick gun belt.)

If you don't want to personally use one, fine. But stating such things as if fact is unfair, and unsubstantiated by your own lack of experience with one.

Tracy

I never said I had not used one. When I said I had "looked into them," perhaps I should have been more clear. I did get one of these holsters and I tried it.

As to your statement that they "stay put," perhaps you never have to use the restroom, but. . . .

Under certain circumstances in the rest room, I could not get mine to "stay put."

I am not interested in trying to engage in a discussion about what you do with your pistol when you are "taking care of your personal business" in a restroom whether at your own house, or in a
public or semi-public as in "employees only" rest room.

However, there are a number of cases of police officers of both genders leaving their pistols in the restroom because they had to "do something with it," while taking care of their business.

One of those happened to a female officer friend of mine who got lucky. She "remembered" her pistol about 45 minutes after leaving the rest room and the hospital where she had been visiting a friend. Fortunately, it was still there when she drove back to the hospital and went back to the same rest room.

In addition, many negligent discharges happen when "administratively handling" a pistol.

In all honesty, the picture of one of these things slipping down your the pants legs at just the wrong time should be enough to convince anyone, but if you are happy, I assure you that I am happy for you!!

Sorry, we will have to disagree on this one.

Well, why didn't you bring up the bathroom in the first place, of that is the primary source of contention? Yep, it's an issue we all have to worry about.

To be blunt, women don't get to stand and unzip for 50% of our bathroom breaks, so bathrooms pose a bigger problem than you would think. Belted holsters for women are challenging, as again....we don't just stand and unzip. Our pants drop to our knees at least; often to the disgusting dirty floor due to the weight of a firearm if we are not very careful.

The Remora works best of any holster I have in this department, as the firearm can be removed easily, fully holstered, placed in my purse and hung on the hook on the stall door. Hands down, the easiest, safest, and most clean holster option to be wearing when needing to use a public restroom.

Hi everyone,
I am the guy over on the DefensiveCarry forums that made the post about the M&P Shield and the Remora holsters. If you don't mind, I will just repost here what I wrote over there. I will be happy to answer any questions that I can. I certainly was not happy with the fit of my Shield and the 6ART, but I have been using the new holster for a couple weeks now and I like it a lot!! These two were absolutely made for each other!!
Here is the post.

Hi All,
I have not been an active member here for a while, but have started spending more time here lately and have gathered some great info!! I have been reading about Remora holsters over the last couple of months and I ordered one several weeks back. I have some information that some of you may find helpful and I wanted to pass it on.

I saw on the site and was told also that the 6ART was the model of holster that fits the Shield, so that is what I ordered. I received the holster and was really looking forward to using it!! I was very disappointed on the first day I used the holster with my Shield that almost every time I checked, the magazine was no longer secure in my gun and it was starting to fall out. This is not a good thing at all. I probably found it disengaged at least 6 times that day. My M&P 9c fit the holster PERFECT!! I started looking at the holster and found, IMHO, that the design of the 6ART presents a couple of problems with the Shield. The gun sits too low in the holster. This does not let you get good purchase on the grip of the gun, but worse yet, it lets the magazine release drop inside the holster. Now I have the reinforced top on my holsters which may have added to the problem, but with the mag release inside the holster, it was being pushed to the point that it was being released. I called and talked with Mike at Remora and he said that he was going to grab a piece of the material they use and basically custom make me a holster. This is exactly what he did and he absolutely nailed the holster. It is an awesome holster that I have worn now for a little over a week and have not had any problems at all. It is the most comfortable holster that I have ever owned and is also very secure!! If you are looking for a Remora holster for a M&P Shield, I HIGHLY recommend talking with Mike and asking for a holster like the one he made for me. My Shield and the Remora holster were made for each other!!

As has been talked about here, the customer service at Remora is second to none!! They really did go above and beyond to get me a holster that I was really happy with!! I am including a few pictures for you to see what they made for me.

Thanks for looking, Ron

rontr1, thanks for the photos and the where-with-all to question and suggest a new design for the Remora/Shield fit. I see that the new design is built away from the magazine release and also cut away from outside of the aft sight for an easier draw/holster.
Mine should be here in a day or two. Nice catch rontr1 and thank you Mike at Remora for listening to those of us that carry your product.

So in order to get a Remora holster with the semi sweat shield that works with th Shield we need to call Remora and ask Mike to specially build one? The ones advertised on the site will still have the issues mentioned in this thread?

Or maybe I missed something, wouldn't be the first time

And as to Falia.....yeah I don't blame her for not wanting to show her face.....keeps the Internet pervs at bay.......and btw she highly recommends PJ holsters. I find her videos and reviews informative.
