I am considering buying backup replacement parts for my M&P .40 (Striker Assy/Recoil Assy) from MidwayUSA.com and was wondering if the parts they sell are really factory parts? The reviews on Midway's site say they are authentic, but I give more weight to the opinions of this forum.

I was going to buy these parts from S&W, but they don't make it very convenient. Not to mention that some parts at S&W, like a sear housing assy or a trigger bar assy, are "Restricted to factory trained armourers."

Searched forum, but could not find if this question has been asked before.

Just keep in mind that some of those "factory parts" may not be the new-style factory parts. For instance, the magazine base and locking plates shown are the old style. And while the both the new and old-style barrels should be interchangeable, the sear housing is different enough that some of the associated parts like the sear pin and ejector aren't.

At least one of the parts I ordered from S&W was listed as restricted, but I didn't have any problem getting it. You might want to try them first (You do have to call them directly, but everyone I've talked with has been great to work with. :)), and actually confirm the part versions/numbers for your particular gun. If you don't know, they should be able to tell from the serial number. Most of the part numbers on the on-line list are no longer correct anyway. Even if they don't have a part, you'll know the correct part number if you order from somewhere else like Midway, Brownells, or Speed Shooter Specialties.

Its been my experience with S&W C/R reps that you're a lot better off if you have the part number. On the S&W site, click on Resources, then Owner's Manuals. On your left you will see "parts lists". Click on that. You'll probably have to scroll for awhile to find your model. Also, it really matters who you get on the phone, because one person will tell you a part is unavailable, while another will tell you they have it in stock. I've had this happen to me a few times. I hope this helps you!

Midway is a great company and gets my business. Brownells is also a great company and they also carry factory M&P parts. Consider that right now one or the other may be out of said parts. Its good to check with both. Also Speed Shooter Specialists have S&W factory M&P parts.

Thanks for the responses. I appreciate all the tips and web site locations. My bookmark folder's getting pretty full trying to keep up with all of the gun sites out there.

If Midway says it is factory, it is factory.

Unfortunately, they haven't updated the on-line parts list yet, so many of the numbers are incorrect. But if you have the "old" number when you call them, they can cross-reference it.
