How do I go about changing the sights on my Shield?
Haven't had problems with mine but I've heard some people have. I don't have a problem with the stock ones but if I can get better ones, why not, right. Once I acquire the sights, what's the next step?

The best way I have found is to buy good sights like Trijicon HDs or TruGlos from a reputable gun shop. They have the correct tool(a sight press) and will do it for free.

Your next step is to pay $30 and have a gunsmith change the stock sights out.

Best $30 I paid and Impact Guns included a warranty if sights became loose or fell off which has happened to me with a Kahr when I had the kahr co. Install night sights.

The only reason I was eventually able to return my Kahr for a full refund was the fact I paid Kahr $40 to install night sights.

Seriously you will spend more for dinner at Applebees for the family than the peace of mind the sights are done right and warrantied.

Agreed,
Buy the sights from your lgs and get them installed for free...
Not to mention your supporting your local economy;)

Not sure why that's better than buying the sights from the gun store and having them installed for free.

If you buy the sights online, then add the 30 or 40 bucks the LGS is going to charge you to install them, you are probably spending more, and won't have local product support. If you have a problem with internet purchased sights and the problem is not due to installation, the LGS is going to tell you to contact the manufacturer.

Buy turnkey, and you have total support and an onsite exchange if need be. The LGS will deal with the warranty issues for you.

If you have good LGS, it pays to support them.

If you do replace your sights, spend a little extra money and pick up a Apex USB. You have to remove the rear sight to install it, and it will do more for your shooting than the replacement sights.

If you don't have the tools at home, pay a gunsmith. The sights on the Shield are on tight.

Hopefully a sight change will be a one time event. Not worth the damage you can do to your pistol if you something wrong. $20 or less is well spent money.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm gonna go with the XS Big Dot Sights. I'll be sure to stop by my lgs and inquire about purchasing and getting them installed there.

I live near Impact Guns in Utah so I did support my local gunsmith when I had them install my XS Big Dot night sights on my Shield. I will say Impact Guns in Ogden Utah has one of the top gunsmiths.

The Kahr co. night sight install was an after thought when the weapon was shipped back on Kahr's dime for warranty work. I figured while postage both ways was covered I may as well have them install the sights.

I agree I would not pay postage to have sights installed especially when labor is $30.

I have changed all the sights on my M&Ps by myself. But as others have mentioned, use a gunsmith if you don't have the tools. You need a good sight pusher and file. New aftermarket sights will need some fitting so most will need to be filed.

Has anyone tried one of these yet? I saw it on midwayusa along with this disclaimer, "Tool is not designed to remove extremely tight factory rear sights. Sight tool is intended to install and adjust tritium night sights.":confused:

Anyone know if Trjicon makes a night sight for the shield? I thought I read in a thread somewhere in the forum that the SA37 would fit, but on Trjicon web sight it says "excludes shield"?

Anyone else make something that looks close to the SA37 that does fit the Shield?

Thanks
Dave

Ameriglo has Trijicon sights that are Shield specific. I have the SW-345 on mine.
