New member, new M&P 40
Never owed my own pistol before last night. Have passed maybe 50 rounds through it already. I've got some questions and I'm open to any good info.
Let me start. Are there any good places to pick up some decent priced sights?
Is there anything I should be aware of with this particular pistol?
I've been thinking of a BLACKHAWK! holster, maybe one with a cross body or shoulder harness.

Leave it stock. The sights are fine. Spend your money on ammo and practice shooting. As to holsters, it depends on use. If you just need something for the range, get a OWB (outside waist band) from Paul Giannaula at PJ Holster. If it is for concealed carry, get Paul's IWB (inside waist band) holster.

I have several holsters for my 2, M&P40's. I have BlackHawk Serpas in both belt and shoulder rigs, and I have BlackHawk leather hip holster. A guy can never have to many holsters, I wear different holsters for whatever I am wearing or time of year up here in the North Country.

Just be aware that some ranges and shooting classes don't want you using a cross-draw holster of any kind because you're likely to "sweep" across others on the range as you draw.
I can't use my old shoulder rig when at the club, but the holster detaches and can be used with the built-in belt loop.

I recommend the Warren Tactical sight package. Do a Google search. I found my new set for $75 I think. I like the green F/O front sight. (goes well on the M&P)
Most competition shooters of polymer guns choose the Warren Tactical.
Congrats on choosing an outstanding pistol too.

I would put money into training and ammo. Sights are nice, but, master what you have first.

What is it you don't like about the stock sights?

Leave the cross draw or shoulder rig until you are totally comfortable with carry. As mentioned, most ranges will not allow them and to add most instructors will not allow them in a class. A lot won't allow Serpa holsters either, Google that one for some eye openers.
Get some training, in particular if "defense" is one of the reasons you bought it. Ammo, training and practice = fun and skills.

Re sights - try this first. Black out the 2 rear dots - use electrical tape or a water soluble marker. You can try that with dry fire. Many people find they pick up the front sight better with an all black rear. And at zero cost, easy to try.
