i was just wondering if others have had this type of reliability.i have several smiths and all have functioned flawlessly.sorry if its a bad topic,im just tired of hearing about malfunctions and problems.thought it would be nice to hear about others who have had the same great reliability.

I have no reliability problems with any of my M&P's (don't have a Shield tho). I pull the trigger and they go bang. I shoot around 750-1000 rounds a week.

I have:
1,829 through my M&P .45 without issue. I had a couple fail to feed problems at first, but these rounds are clean.
6,126 through my 1911 4 1/4" and no issues.

I only have 120 through my M&P .40S&W, but it's new. No failures yet.

My Shield had a couple of miss-feeds in the first 100 rounds, then over 500+ more rounds 100% reliable.

I also have a M&P 9C with approximately 700 rounds that has never missed a beat.

I don't keep close track of rounds so these are estimates.

My 9mm M&P Pro has 7500 rounds or so including 2500 rounds in two days with no cleaning. No failures.

My 9mm FS carry gun has about 4000 failure free rounds.

My 9mm Shield has 2500 failure free rounds.

My 40 Pro has 4500 failure free rounds.

I like M&Ps....

I don't count specifically, but based on practice schedule over the past couple years I have:

~30,000 rounds through my range M&P9 (Maybe three or four malfunctions that weren't directly ammo related - ie: bad Winclean primers)

~20,000 -25,000 rounds through my personal Beretta 92FS (2 malfunctions - one stovepipe and one failure to extract)
~ 5,000 - 6,000 rounds through my issued (now purchased) Beretta 92FS (No malfunctions)
~ 6,000 - 8,000 rounds through my personal M&P9 (One non-ammo fail to extract and one or two stovepipes)
~ 3,000 - 4,000 rounds through my issued M&P9 (No malfunctions)
~ 1,500 rounds or so through my M&P9C (One or two early fail to extracts...Since then it's been 100% reliable).

I strongly feel several of the malfunctions, especially the stovepipes, were the direct result of Winclean ammunition, or (especially in the case of my personal Beretta, personal M&P, and range M&P) failure to properly maintain. Because the above firearms were not used at the time for duty or off-duty I simply abused them. I used my personal M&P from September 2011 through December 2011 (about 5,000 rounds) without any cleaning OR lubrication. None. I cleaned and lubed it after we were issued our range guns in December.

I haven't shot nearly as much this year (since November) due to a bad case of tennis elbow, but I've been shooting my issued M&P almost exclusively with Federal 124gr American Eagle and it has been 100% since late December of last year.

Glad to hear about your 45s.im considering purchasing my first 45,but can't decide between the 45c or a 1911.i really enjoy the simplicity of the striker system, but on the other hand wouldn't mind something different.

I highly recommend buying an M&P .45C first. That way when you finally buy the 1911, you'll truly appreciate what a fine gun the 1911 is.

I'm completely serious about that. I started with a 1911 Delta Elite in 10mm. Got rid of it because I didn't have the experience to appreciate it. Then I got a Glock. It was fine, but...

I went through a few others, but it wasn't until I got a 1911 again that I was able to understand just how great they are.

SoCalDep,
What job do you have that allows you to shoot 1K rounds a week? Or are you independently wealthy? If it's a job, are they hiring? I'm available.

Well, those numbers are over almost a two year period, and I am a firearms instructor for a VERY large Sheriff's Department. So I do have the good fortune to shoot a lot. I also get to see recruits put nearly 5,000 rounds each through their M&Ps (and Berettas before that) during the academy.

I have a Shield 40 with ~2200 rounds through it and no malfunctions.

I also have an M&P 40 Pro Series with ~1600 rounds through it. Only malfunction was ammo related. It hated Fiocchi 170gr FMJ. It would not feed it at all so I let my Shield eat it.

I quit keeping track around the 6000 mark for my 40c I have had not one malfunction other than ammo related. my guess would be right around 7500 rounds.

I have a 40FS with somewhere around 7500 rounds. I kept track for the longest time but I'm sure I have missed some of my practice. Twice I shot 500 rounds at one time. I have had 1 failure to feed when it was brand new and not a hiccup since.

I have a colt 1991 A1 1911 with tens of thousands of rounds. Always went bang. I do clean and lube it and replace the springs and I clean the magazines too. I have a 645 bought new back in the Don Johnson Miami Vice days it eats everything I ever gave it. Never any issue. I have a glock 23 police trade. I put in all new springs, cleaned every speck of dirt out of it. It won't run with a light and laser on it at all. It also won't group for love nor money.
