Default 9FS Issues

Good morning all,

I am a new member and I just recently purchased my first S&W through a private sale. Looking at the paperwork I see it was born in 2012. I can see there is an S on the trigger bar which there seems to be some debate on if that matters or not but my only concern is the rotation of the barrel.

Is there a way to tell which rotation I have?

If you put a tight patch on a cleaning rod and pull it through the barrel watching how far it rotates(put a flap of tape on the rod), 1/2 turn would be a 1:10, 1/4 turn would be a 1:18 (these are approximate, depending on barrel length, but there is enough difference between the two that it will be obvious.

Awesome! I heard some bad mouthing about the 1/18, is it that much of a difference in terms of performance?

Have you been able to try it out yet, to see how it shot for ya?

You mention this is your first SW, is it your first 9 as well or do you have a level of experience with that caliber to know you may or may have some growing pains with its trigger as well as grip control, etc? Only mentioned that as my first 9 was a compact MP and I had to learn the issues i was having were more on my side (easy to work thru and resolve) and not the gun's.

MasonicJohn, the only real difference between the "S" series and "H" series trigger lockwork in an M&P, is the "H" series lockwork has a little crisper sear let off, and a more distinct trigger "reset" after firing. You will not have any problem w/ an "S" trigger in that pistol as far as function.
And, as far as an upgraded barrel in your M&P, it matters only if the pistol is just not accurate w/ several brands of ammunition. Some older M&P's shoot very accurately, some do not. If your pistol will not "hold" a decent group, and is all over the paper at say 25', contact S&W for assistance. They will fix you up.

Only on heavier bullets (147gr) The aftermarket barrels (KKM, Storm Lake) are 1:18, I use KKM, but rest assured, if the factory barrel was more accurate, I'd use it. But then again I shoot 124's. The main reason why S&W went to the 1:10 was because of people complaining about accuracy with heavier bullets.
