9C and a class
A few months ago I picked up a used, unfired M&P 9c from a friend of mine. It's the model without the thumb safety/mag disconnect. Let me state that I've always been a 1911 fan, been my preferred platform since I first learned to shoot over 40 years ago.
Outside of "boring" ranges sessions I hadn't used this pistol for anything more complex. This past Sunday I was in a 4 hour advanced class that dealt with everything from weapon handling skills, "active shooter" scenario and ended with shooting from within and under a vehicle. We started with a 30 round PD qualification "cold" shoot (no warm up drills). I scored a 97%-surprised the heck out of me lol-I dropped 2 rounds at 15 yards from the 5 point scoring section into the 3 point section (center mass).
We then moved through the drills. I had 5 mags with me, discovered one that didn't lock the slide back (now relegated to the parts bin). Not a single malfunction or other issue during the 200 rounds outside of that. My pistol has the duty/carry Apex kit and a tritium front sight. I use the small backstrap (golf ball textured) and the 12 rd mags with finger lip.
What I didn't notice: trigger reset-not an issue at all, perhaps because I'm subconsciously already attuned to it? Who knows, just didn't notice it that's all. I used both 115 & 124 fmj because that's what I had-no difference, too focused on the drills.
I use the Blackhawk leather owb holster & DeSantis mag carriers. Pistol stayed put when I needed it to and drew quickly when I needed it to.
I have 100% confidence in this great little pistol. So much so that next year I was going to get another 1911-probably a Baer, but now I think I'll get the full size .45 and set it up the same way.
In the late 70s I had a 59, then got a 6906 when they came out. Lost the 59 in a burglary, got rid of the 6906. I know I'm preaching to the choir but S&W really nailed it with this model. Just some random thoughts after class.

I have that model with the safety, factory stock. Use the same grip piece you do, and the finger extension on the mags. I've got 1,150 rds. of my reloads thru this thing, flawless and very accurate. Yup, they got it right. It's not a Glock, but it is Perfection!

Thanks! For years & years it's been 1911s for me for my 1st choice in a self defense pistol but I really like the way this pistol works, shoots, carries. I still have a high end custom 1911 that I'll never get rid of but I feel really drawn to a full size M&P in .45 as my next purchase. It'll have to wait for a while, gonna be a grandpa soon (wow, still having a hard time wrapping my head around that one lol) & I'll need to spoil the little guy when he shows up in the next few weeks (due date is the 17th but anything can happen lol).

I just have to say...I have 3 M&Ps and know the whole line up. I have not seen a M&P I didn't like! Smith has this line down to a T. Enjoy your 9c.
