another happy Shield owner
I picked up a Shield 40SW recently and just took it to the range today to try it out. Shot about 75-80 rounds through it and it handled perfectly. The 40SW is perfectly manageable in the Shield and recoil is about the same as in my 40c. The narrower grip is not as comfortable to shoot as is the 40c, but is better suited to concealed carry than the 40c.
Only one problem, probably with me, not the Shield. I evidently need to work on my grip as most of my shots tend to be slightly to the left. They don't appear to be in one general area such as low and left, but instead vary from low left to high left. I may have to work on my grip, but if this trend of shooting to the left persists, I may look into having the front sight adjusted slightly .
But other than that it shot beautifully, not even a suggestion of a problem. I see now why the Shield has been so popular.

When I first shot mine it shot left also, then I shot it for a sand bag rest and it hit center. I alway need plenty of practice with small handguns I seem to put a death grip on them on shot left. Plus the trigger is very different from compacts and full size so you maybe anticipating the bang. Practice before you touch the sites

Don't worry too much about drifting to the left. Work on your grip and squeezing the trigger without flinching in anticipation of recoil. With practice, the .40 Shield makes a fine CCW.

I agree, don't touch the sights just yet....Being a lefty mine was pulling right at first. Being a smaller 40, it takes a while to get used to it, but once you do, you'll love it.

Thanks for all of the replies. I don't intend to make any adjustments until I've had a chance to shoot it several more times. Actually the first few rounds I did shoot from a rest and they were pretty much dead on which indicates to me that it is my technique, however so far I have been unable to completely eliminate drifting to the left. I think part of the problems is that I have large hands and the narrow grip on the Shield takes some getting used to. I don't think I'm flinching in anticipation of the recoil because I don't have that problem with my 40c. I'll keep practicing and I'll eventually get it.
I'm about 95% certain that it's me, so I won't touch the sights until I have had time to practice some more. Actually all of the shots were in the "kill zone" so I was actually pretty happy with the results of my first outing with the compact Shield.

This my first group with my Shield 9mm this last weekend...
Gun was shooting a little low at 10 yards.
After a couple hundred rounds this was my best group I could get at 15 yards standing...
That's a 7 shot group. The big hole has 3 bullets though the same hole.
