Default Help - have extra piece during Apex install

I have a M&P CORE 9L pistol that I am attempting to install an Apex FSS kit. I have the trigger and USB done and was in the process of installing the sear block back in the pistol. All of a sudden I found a small L shaped wire about 1/2' long. Where does it go? What's it for?

I'm also have a lot of trouble installing the sear block which I think should be simple. Anyone have any pictures?
Thanks.

I think the wire you are talking about is the take-down lever retaining wire. It is an original part on your pistol. Figure out how it goes in and put it back. Mine fell out too.

That's the take-down lever retaining wire - it keeps the take-down lever from falling out. It goes in a slot on the left side of the locking block (the front one).

I have a follow-up question: Is there any harm in NOT putting this piece back in? I tried for a solid 20 minutes and just couldn't get it. Test fired the gun, about 50 rounds, and it didn't seem to be an issue.

Yes you need to install it... if in fact it works it way out while firing your slide could come off....you DON'T want that to happen..

If you lose it call S&W customer service, they will send you a few for free. Here's a pic of that wire spring and where it goes in the locking block. Yes you need the spring to secure the take down lever properly.

Mike,

Where did that illustration come from? Is it a complete manual on the M&P?
Thanks
