Been using CCI Mini-Mag 22LR ammo in my M&P22 handgun. Just got CCI 22Short HP ammo as a present. Don't think it will work.. but been told it will. Which is correct?? thx

I doubt that the slide will strip the shorts from the magazine and chamber the round, without it hanging up. They certainly won't have the power to cycle the slide. If you dropped one directly into the chamber, it would fire, but it's hard on the extractor to do it that way. Also, the case being shorter, if you shot enough of them that way, it might pit the area between the shorter case and the rifling and you wouldn't be able to chamber the long rifle rounds that you're supposed to be using.

It will probably fire without any issue but i doubt it will load from the magazine correctly.

This looks like an excuse to buy a revolver or a single shot rifle.
(I wouldn't shoot them in a M&P22)

At the price of ammo today one might get a free gun.....

A year ago while at Cabelas looking for ammo a gent next to me was praying to the ammo gods and cursing ammo companies over 22 LR.

They had stacks and stacks of 17 HMR. He stuck a few thousand rounds in his basket and told me he was on the way to the gun counter to buy a 17 HMR rifle. I followed him and he did.

Can't find anymore CCI Mini-Mag 22LR (40grain) here (Canada).

You can shoot 22 shorts out of a revolver chambered for 22lr generally with no issues, but not semi-autos. Who ever told you it would work probably is a wheel gun nut with little to no experience with semi-autos.

As far as what other ammo to use aside from CCI... Just about anything will work that isn't sub-sonic (below 1050 FPS). Your may be fine with the slow ammo, but many have issues with it not having enough kick to cycle properly. Also, some of the super hot ammo may give you cycling issues. Luckily, most ammo out there is standard or high velocity which will work just great. Any brand will be fine, your particular pistol may like them all or have a few it doesn't like - each barrel is different so you'll just have to try each new kind to see how it does for you.

Mine has shot any 22LR I've put in it. Don't know if I've tried subsonic but I don't think so. I've read reports that they're brand sensitive but I haven't experienced that.

I just got an M&P22 and have only shot it once. It shot mini-mags great but did not like Federal Champion or Winchester Super X. I had failure to feed issues with both. The slide picked up the cartridge from the mag but would not seat it into the chamber. A slight push on the rear of the slide did chamber the round. There was a noticeable difference in the sound when the different ammo was fired, with the CCI being the loudest or maybe the "sharpest" bang. Still, it's a new gun and with more use it may cycle better when it's broken in. These three brands are the only ammo I used.

My M&P has shot everything I've tried so far, even standard velocity stuff. Haven't tried any of the hyper-velocity rounds. Most tube fed .22 rifles will shoot shorts, longs and long rifle rounds.

After getting it broken in which took a couple hundred rounds of MiniMags, mine loves CCI Blazer but will shoot any hi velocity I have fed it. Remington Golden leaves a lot of gold flakes behind in chamber so I avoid it. Both Remington and Federal bulk have occasional FTF, about 1 in 50, but Blazers are flawless (and cheap).

Get a Henry .22 lever action rifle. Heck, it doesn't even have to be a Golden Boy. I love mine! It's more fun to shoot than my AR-15 and pistols.

Or a good used Marlin 39A. It'll shoot short, long and long rifle ammo in any combination you like.

FYI : Been trying out different ammo (than CCI MiniMags). Seems it hates Winchester.. but likes Remington Thunderbolts & Federal Champions.
