Shield 40 fail to eject at the range
At the range today, the Shield 40 had issues running Winchester ammo. I had one round fail to eject in nearly every mag. It was not consistent either, some a few shots in, and several at the 2nd to last round. Havent had this problem before, however, this is the first time I have run this ammo, probably the last also. I was also running my fill size M&P 40 with the same ammo, with only one stuck in the pipe. Is this something to look into or do you all think that a simple ammo switch will do the trick?

Uh oh...just read the KABOOM thread. Not making me feel like using my last 50 rounds of the white box ammo.

My Shield 40 does fine with "WWB." It's only had a few malfunctions with Speer Gold Dot. With S.G.D., the slide has locked back prematurely when there were still a few rounds left in the mag about 3-4 times. Once or twice it's had a FTEject.
Personally, for target practice, WWB is my favorite ammo.

I've also not had problems with WWB in several guns (M&P 40 Pro 5", Shield 9, Kahr CW40, and HiPoint 40S&W carbine). Suggest thorough cleaning (including the magazines) and lube. I use gun grease vice oil on the slides/rails. No lube in the magazines.

When you said, "I had one round fail to eject..." was it still in the chamber or just sitting in the ejection port (stove pipe)?

I guess I could have been more clear in my explanation by using two simple words: double feed. Sorry about that.....but that's exactly what happened. No stove pipe...

Every time I see a double feed condition, my first suspect is the magazine (not holding the next round until the slide strips it off). Typically this is because the lips are deformed (or using a .40 mag in a 9mm)

OK, this is called a Type III malfunction. The expended round is not extracted from the chamber and the next round is trying to be fed, but can't because the chamber is full. It looks like this:
If that's what's happening, then there are a couple potential causes.
It could be that the case is just sticking in the chamber. This happens with some ammo sometimes. It could be because the chamber is close to the specification limit. It could be because the ammo is dirty. It could be because the case material, steel or aluminum, is not compatible with your chamber. Sometimes it just happens. If it was the "el cheepo" Winchester White box ammo, then I suspect it just could be dirty. Thorough cleaning of the chamber helps this as would a light polish with Mother's Polish.
Another cause could be a faulty extractor. This is unlikely, but it happens. Check your extractor to see if it's chipped or broken in any way. With the slide off, slide an empty case under the extractor where it would normally sit when chambered. The extractor should hold it there. If it won't hold the case, it could be a weak extractor spring.
In any case, your gun shouldn't do that and we need to resolve the issue.

My 9MM Shield is doing this too. Did it twice in the first fifteen rounds. And now have about 200 more rounds through it and have had 2 more. Using Winchester White Box.

You can attach them to the post. When you select "Post Reply" (or Quote) you will see a message box, if you scroll down to "additional options" you will see a "manage attachments" button in the "Attach files" box. Click on that and the next box you see will be a "manage attachments" window. Select "Browse" and then select the file from your computer, after you select the file, select "open" in the bottom right which will take you back to the "manage attachments" window. Then select the "upload" from the right side across from your file, wait for it to upload (it will tell you this) then select "browse" again if you want to add another picture, or "close from the upper right of the window and it will take you back to the post message screen. (it sounds more complicated than it is).

Here is my Shield mag vs my Pro 40 mag. The Pro 40 mag has more clearance to the round than the Shield.
