Picked up an M&P22 today, and it has white lettering. I know some like color filled lettering, but it has always looked gawdy and cheap to me.
Anybody come up with a good way to remove the S&W white lettering? There have been at least a couple of other threads on this, but no real good answers.
I removed it from a S&W rifle by very carefully scratching it out with a scribe, and acetone. Whatever S&W uses, acetone barely touches it. Finished up with some Birchwood Casey's Aluminum Black, which matched up and blended so well nobody can tell.
Am just looking for an easier, less tedious way, as the M&P 22 has double lined words with very fine lines.

WD40 and a toothbrush always takes out do-it-yourself white lettering.

But this is factory white lettering.

I'm sure this was well meaning, but WD-40 will only make it cleaner and stand out more.

They put that stuff on to stay. Aircraft stripper would probably take it right off. But, it's really nasty stuff. Don't get it on anything, but the metal.

Rather than try to remove it, how about covering it up? A little paint worked into the engraved lettering?

Maybe you can use a black crayon to cover the white?

Just follow the YouTube videos for crayon filling.

Will look into the aircraft stripper. I sell seed to a few different aerial applicators, maybe one of them can help me out.
Want something that is permanent and not just covering it up, that means it would eventually need to be done again.

You can also get paint stripper from a hardware store or automotive store. I don't know if I'd use it on a slide though, as it could etch the surface. As said earlier, its pretty nasty stuff.

I shoot this gun a lot (when I can find ammo that is) and do not baby it. It still looks good, no problems, would do it again in a heartbeat.

If you look real close you can still see the white painted-on roll marks. Nothing another coat will not fix...

Let it sit on it for a little bit. Let the WD40 soften the paint.

While the stripper I'm talking about is actually called "aircraft" stripper, it can be had at any store that sells automotive paint. I used it to strip a Harley I repainted once.

Use in a well ventilated area. Even in a garage with the door open isn't enough for me. I got a drop about 1mm in diameter on my arm accidentally, it burns something fierce. So, be really careful with it.

I don't think it will work, but it can't hurt to try.

Tal-Strip has been my go-to stripper when normal paint strippers do not work. Now, i have not used it on a blued slide, so I can't say whether it will affect the finish - but it will surely get the white out .

Odorless mineral spirits maybe? I've used that to remove testors enamel paint off of my slide. Just another option?
