Jonesy, the traction grips, do they wrap back to front or front to back (Like the Talons).

I checked their pricing out, and for $8.79, might give them a try.

I have the Talon rubber grips. After nine months I have only had one issue. The holster I use caused the corner to peel back. Just a little trim and no problems now.

I have the rubber Talon Grips on two of my pistols, including my Shield.

In my opinion, they are so well cut that they practically disappear, and look like they are part of the pistol and they enhance your grip, just enough. I've had them since Thanksgiving and they show no wear or signs of "unsticking". Also IMO, by comparison, the Traction Grips are butt-ugly, but to each his own!

I have the Talon Grips on my Shield and loved them, until they started coming off. I live in a desert climate and evidently the adhesive will start softening and the tape starts sliding around and eventually comes off. I had my tape on for about 1 year when I started having problems. Not a huge deal but I did expect them to last a little longer without having to replace after one year. It is also just a "heads up" to those in warmer climates.

I don't know anything about Traction grips, but I really like Talon grips. I have the rubber Talon grips on both of my polymer carry guns and they work well. The provide a solid grip without adding thickness. Good stuff.

I suspect you had problems with the "original design" Talon grip tape. They recently redesigned the product and no longer has the segmented seam at the back. That is where mine started to "creep"/unstick after about 6 months of weekly use in hot south Texas.

Instead it is hidden in the front under itself (as in their Glock product). I replaced mine and it is rock-solid. I expect it to way outlast the original design. You might want to give 'em a shout--maybe they'll replace them for you at no cost? They did for me.

Old thread but. I've had the rubber talon grips on my Ruger LC9S for about a year and love them. Cleaning the grip really good before applying them and then heating them is the key. This is my carry gun so it's on my everyday, all day. It's also been used at the range many times since I put them on and have not had a single issue with them.

+1 Talon grips. I put them on all my polymer framed guns. I try and order the grip at the same time or even before I order the gun, so I never even touch the handle before I clean with alcohol and put the grips on just to help ensure the grip surface is oil free.

Hogue makes a grip insert replacement that is a wrap-around with finger grooves. I have them on two M&P 9s and like them.

I have found that grip sleeves, like the Hogue, will migrate downward over time from positive insertion of magazines.

I didn't notice this until one day in competition the sleeve was low enough to block full insertion of a magazine. I had a few hundred mag insertions by that time. Stupid me, I corrected the problem, then continued to use it. The second time it happened, I stopped using it (duh).

I'm glad I found this out in competition rather than on the street in a life/death situation.

I won't use any part that can move like this on a self defense gun. There are too many other good (albeit more expensive) options to improve a grip.

The Hogues I am referencing replace the palm swell and attach in the back just as the original palm swell. The frame tool is used to lock it in place. They are not your typical slip-on sleeve.

I put a Talon rubber style grip on my second Shield yesterday. They changed the design so the wraparound seam meets in the side instead of the back. Seems much better. I wish I would have saved the peel off backing to use as a template for future use.

Put talon grips on my Shield and shot 50 rounds and did some dry firing. Couldn't wait to get them off and I ripped them off as soon as I got home. Have the starting of a blister on my middle finger on my left hand. The design is for right hand shooters and the wrap style leaves a edge where is rubbed against it. Waste of $20 bucks.

I have had this gun since the 19 of feb and have shot 400 rounds and dry fired it a bunch of times so I know it was the grips that did it.

I can't find these on Hogue's site, just the standard slip on grip sleeve. Are they new and just not listed yet?

I am not sure. I purchased two on Amazon over the last few months.

Could you post a picture or two? This really interests me. I tried the Talon grips and found that, over time, the bond broke down and did not hold up to use, particularly in hot weather.

Now, SIX-and-a-HALF YEARs to the 2nd one.
