Thinking about purchasing a M&P Core 4.25" and placing optics on it.

My question in about co-witnessing.
Once the gun is zeroed and the optics are adjusted is the concept basicly look through the optics (ignoring the front/rear sites) and where ever the red dot is that is where the POI should be?

You still have to worry about you sight picture but not your sight alignment since you are not using the frot and read sights.

Thanks
Peter

Not all optics co-witness, what that means is when the optic dot and the aligned sights can be aligned at the same time, it's co-witnessed. The advantage is that if the optic quits you will still be able to sight the target. Some optics are so tall that having one installed will prevent you from seeing the iron sights on the pistol. Co-witnessing is overblown IMO, most comp guns that use optics don't even have iron sights. My core co-witnesses with my Deltapoint but that wasn't the reason I chose that particular sight. With a dot, once you have it adjusted, when you put the dot on what you want to hit and pull the trigger (correctly), you will hit the target.

This is what I thought and hoped. The plan is for this to become my new home defense gun. Along with a new threaded barrel and surpressor I will be all set.

Just make sure you can see over the suppressor with the reflex installed. The mounting on the Core sits lower than a lot of other pistols with reflex sights. Personally I wouldn't use a suppressor on a HD gun, the added weight at the end of the barrel slows down the ability to swing to a target and stop at point of aim. (try using a 1 foot 2X4 swinging through a 90 degree arc and stopping at a point, then do the same thing with a 2 foot 2X4, the difference is obvious :D, but that's personal preference).

I once was in a room where a gun when off and I was amazed how loud it actually is. In a HD situation I will have little time for ear protection and already have "ringing" in my ears due to my own stupidity when I was very young.

The supressor is a SilencerCo Osprey. It does not block the standard iron sights on a pistol, so I don't believe it will block the reflex sight.

SilencerCo Suppressors ? SilencerCo. Firearm Suppressors

Thanks

I think there's more to worry about in a HD situation than your hearing, I'd rather be deaf than dead . You should hear a .45 go off in a tunnel, maybe that's why I can't hear out of one side. ;) (just to be clear, I was not a tunnel rat, but I did a few "After Action Evaluations" where I discovered that they didn't get all the bad guys the first time)
