Default VTAC v Pro

Looks like I've got my 9C sold so I'm trying to decide between the VTAC & the Pro, 9mm.
A S&W rep was at my range the past few days, according to what he said the only differences are finish, sights and barrel length. He said the triggers are the same- Performance Center.

Of the display pistols the trigger on the Pro felt more "squishy", resets are the same. This would be used as a range/fun and back up home defense if my 1911 wasn't available.

Am I missing anything else? I like the sights on the V, don't care one way or another for the FDE finish, also like the sights on the Pro. The price is a $90 difference on the V over the Pro.

Anyone have both? Thanks.

I recently purchased a PRO and I love it. In my case the trigger does get somewhat better over time. Whether because of use or just being more familiar with the trigger I don't know. The initial grittiness is gone however. If you want to upgrade the VTAC trigger with apex parts, some of the parts won't work. I may be wrong on this. Thought I read that somewhere. That may or may not help your decision. I left my trigger stock for now, will probably add a FSS Kit sometime. Either way they are both good weapons.

Is the VTAC still in production? Are there issues with the sights durability?

Early production runs of the gun had issues with the front sight coming off, but from what I've read they addressed that on subsequent runs. I know I've had mine for several months and have put 500 rounds or so through it with no issues.

That said, I sort of wish I hadn't paid what I did for mine. At the time, a standard M&P 9 was $200 less, but I really loved the FDE finish. I still like it, but sometimes I wish I'd picked up the standard M&P 9. Are you sure the triggers are the same in the two guns? I'd always read (and heard in online reviews) that the trigger was the same in the standard M&P and the VTAC, but that the Pro had the performance center trigger.

Is there any way you can try out both to see which you prefer shooting? If so, that's the best way to make up your mind.

Thanks for the feedback on your V. According to the factory rep that was at the store/range the triggers are the same. Of the 2 samples the trigger on the V was crisper with the same reset as the Pro. When I find the sights for sale they list at $240!! The have the Pro priced $90 less than the V at this business. It seems like the V is the better deal.

IF the sale comes together on my C, I'll go back and dry fire sample all the examples of each model, I believe they have two of each right now. As they're new guns they're not available for "test drives" lol.

On a whim I picked up a couple of 17 rd mags last year before our stupid law changed here in Colorado (traded a couple extra Wilson 1911 mags for them). If this comes together I'll search out for one of those NJ 15rd mags.

I recently purchased a Pro off of gun broker for IDPA and really could not be happier. (Especially being a Glock convert) I polished a couple of surfaces in my pro and it pulls a consistent 4.2 lbs without near the mush feeling that was in my 34. That said, I have not had experience with the vtac. Seen it. Liked it. Price tag seemed a bit steep for me though.

I just purchased an M&P 45 and an M&P 40 VTAC and the triggers between the two are night and day. They are both new production guns. The 45 had an inspection date of November 2013 and the VTAC had an inspection date of May 2014. The trigger on the 45 has a super gritty take up with a very light reset with no real audible click sound. The VTAC 40 has a very smooth take up and a very noticeable and audible click reset. I was under the impression that all the M&Ps built after 2012 had improved triggers. I'm debating if I should contact Smith & Wesson CS regarding the 45 trigger. It is sooo gritty that it feels sort of like a 3 stage trigger.
