M&P Shield .40
I am seeing a lot of deals out there for the M&P .40 shield. I like to shoot guns chambered in 40, and am considering either a Shield 40, the M&P 40C, the Glock 27, or the XDM 40 compact. The shield is by far the most desirable to me because of how easy it is to conceal in any attire. My problem is that I can't get past the kaboom threads I have read. It appears that ammo could be to blame, but there is enough evidence to suspect that at least one of them fired out of battery. I have never seen anything about a kaboom with the Shield 9mm, and just paid one off for my wife and will pick it up Wednesday at my FFL. If the 9mm performs like I suspect it will, I know I will be wanting the Shield 40 more than ever. Has anyone else out there decided against the Shield 40 because of the kabooms? Or I am being too paranoid?

I have a shield 40 and it doesn't bother me at all. The first mag I was a bit twitchy but settled after. Someone made the argument that there could be more of the failures that dont get posted but the same can be said for just about any pistol. I can't think of any rational reason to not consider purchasing one. And recoil is subjective to the shooter.

My .40 Shield is holding up fine. I bought the pistol for concealed carry and self defense. It's perfect.

I was so paranoid that I went and bought me one of the newfangled no thumb-safety Shield 40's...oh wait I guess that's make me Non-Paranoid wouldn't it!! It joined it's older siblings; FS 40 & 40c!

Thanks for the input. Which one shoots the best? If you only could keep one, which would it be?

I guess that's why I'm seeing deals- they're on the one with the safety. Personally, I like no safety myself. Thanks for the input. I have a chance to get a M&P .40 Compact, brand new, out the door for $375. That's less than I paid for my wife's shield. This guy puts one of his weapons for sale periodically. Claims nothings wrong with it. I hate state income tax.

Recoil doesn't bother me. I have a Witness 40 that is very snappy but I am accurate with it after much practice. Thanks for the input.

Bought my Shield 40 today so count me among the non-paranoid . Too bad my only real option was the manual safety AND the magazine safety AND the loaded chamber indicator. Thank you for keeping me so safe California!!

I have well over 10k rounds through my Shield .40. Both as the .40 and as a 9mm. Still not a single problem has arose from it.
I guess if u shoot a lot u may want to be paranoid. But as u can see, I don't shoot mine that ofte. LMAO.

Love my Shield 40. Only had it for about 5 months and a round count around 425, but not a single failure of any kind, with a bunch of different ammo. After reading about a couple these incidents a few months ago, there was this little thing in the back of my mind, but it disappeared and as soon as I pulled the trigger. I personally don't buy into the argument that there could be a lot more that we don't know about. I think with human nature being what it is, combined with internet accessibility, if you honestly believe S&W sold you a gun that blew up in your hand for no other reason than just pulling the trigger, everybody's going know about it. Maybe I'm wrong.

I just bought a 9mm Shield this morning. I considered going with the .40 because, considering the low capacity of the Shield, I would have liked the extra bang you get for your .40 cal buck. But it is hard to get past the numerous detonations I have read about just on this forum alone. I can't say it's an epidemic, but I can tell you that it changed my mind. I went with the 9mm.

Thanks for all the input. Can't wait to pick up the Shield 9mm tomorrow for my wife. I will get to shoot it with her. I know she is gonna love it. Still haven't decided to go with the Shield 40 quite yet. I would rather have it than the 40 compact because of how much warm weather we have here in NC.

I have both the 40c and the Shield 40, and wouldn't part with either one! I think you'd be happy with either one...overjoyed with both.

Man that makes me sick, Just bought one 465.00 out the door, so they made a 100++ more than your Gun Shop.
Makes you wonder what the break even price for S&W, we may be carrying a 100.00 SDW. Makes me nervous fer-sure, and mad I gave so much.
