Default Holster Opinion!

Getting ready to order the Aliengear CloakTuck 2.0 for my m&p .40c. Need some opinions here. It says to order the holster with plastic nylon clips instead of metal. I am weary. Does anyone have this holster or the Original CloakTuck with plastic nylon clips? Also maybe some opinions on the holster in general? Thanks again everyone!

Welcome to the forum. I have read more positive reviews for Foxx holsters here than Aliengear. A lot of members seem to like them. I am ordering one. Good luck.

There's a lot of information about this already if you search through the existing holster threads. But I'll re-tell my opinion about it again. I really didn't like it. I thought the Neoprene material was too thin and flimsy and allowed for the gun to impress too deeply into the body. I tried it at all positions, depths, and cants and I just could not get it comfortable. Of course, I am a bigger guy. 6 ' 1" 280 LBS. so maybe that has a lot to do with it. I have also found that the bigger IWB holsters (2 clip points instead of just one) in general, seem to be less comfortable. If I had to do it again, I would have bought something different to start with. I currently have a Little Foxx hybrid that I am completely happy with. That, and a versa-carry is about all I use IWB for now.

You will see that others will agree with me and some will disagree. Unfortunately, you won't know if you like it or not until you try it. They do have a good return policy and I can say it is a very well built (quality) product. It just didn't work for me. I have also read that the wait times for the holsters have been exceeding the stated wait times. I got mine in 4 weeks, but others say they have waited for 7 weeks or longer.

Good luck.

hmmm -I was about ready to order the new neoprene - and I did try on a two clip IWB holster at a show and was surprised by how comfortable it felt compared to how big it looked - and the two point contact and adjustability seemed like a good idea - though I haven't yet worn one that way all day.
I like the Alien Gear carry combo with IWB and OWB interchangeable components with adjustable tension - I might order one in neoprene and one in leather and try em both out.
I have several other holster that are not form fitted to the gun and they are not all that comfortable - nor do they maintain positive control over the position of the gun at all times. Although the one I recently got with an SR40C with a snap strap across the top likely will provide goo retention - but I haven't tried it yet - holster came with the gun.

I just returned the AlienGear Cloak 2.0 for a refund. It was just so uncomfortable for me compared to the Galco King-Tuk. For a no break in holster if it doesn't fit out of the box then it never will. I was very disappointed with the width of the kydex which is what made the holster a pain in the side, literally.

I've worn my King-Tuk while driving, riding my motorcycle, jogging and just working around the house and sitting on a variety of furniture with no discomfort. Wearing it to work is a big no-no in my area. Admittedly the King-Tuk is twice the price but is infinitely more comfortable for carry which to me is more important than cheap.

IMHO

How is the regular CloakTuck? I'm 5"8 225 lbs. I'm a bigger guy and I don't want the 2.0 being uncomfortable. Is the original leather holster a more comfortable fit?

While I do NOT have the 2.0, I can say except for the 8 plus week wait, I am very happy with my leather/kydex Alien gear holster. The plastic clips are OK, but I had to order the leather straps, for my 1 3/4 gun belt.

So would it be wise to get plastic or metal or splurge for the leather straps? Ahhh....decisions, decisions. I think I may just go with the regular CloakTuck. Too many negatives about that neoprene stuff for the 2.0.

Default Holster Opinion

I bought the Original Cloaktuck with plastic clips and I love it. It did take 6 weeks for it to arrive but it was well worth the wait. I am 6' and 210 lbs. and it fits nice. Once I got the right cant and got it adjusted it was awesome. I wear it everyday with my Shield and it will always be my carry holster. AlienGear has a great return policy so if it doesn't work out for you, send it back. But give it a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Good luck.

Thanks a bunch! I ordered the original with black leather, plastic clips and bought the black leather loops as well for it! If the plastic is cra*, i will just call them and maybe see if they will do the metal ones next.

Just got a tracking number from Aliengear, exactly 13 days after I put in my order. So glad it's not the 4-8wks I've read so much about. I ordered good old leather with metal clips, as I have similar IWB holsters and like them that way.

You don't think that metal mars up your clothing and belts and what not? My only worry is it tearing a hole in my truck seat or something.

Never once had any problem with clothing. Belts do get some scratch marks, but even plastic clips (had those too) do that to some extent. Not a big problem if I am careful about opening up the clips before slipping over belt.

As for car seats, yes, it's a concern, I wear my IWB holster at 8:30 (left-handed), so typically only the rear clip is in contact with the seat. Both my cars have leather seats so I have to be extra careful. Even plastic clips can mar the surface. In fact, plastic could actually be worse because they typically are thicker and protrude out further than steel clips.

Usually not a problem in the colder months when there is typically outer layer to buffer the clips. In the summer months, I usually make my car seat wear an oversized T-shirt. Don't laugh... it works great. Plus I always carry fresh towels in my car. It's handy for sweaty summer driving, and to throw one behind my back to act as a buffer.

All this is for short hops around town. If I have to drive for longer distances, I remove the holster.
