I just shot a couple hundred rounds through my new 9mm Shield and am not really impressed with it. The trigger has a really (what I think) lomg hard pull. Because of that, I am not accurate at all with this gun. Have any of you had trouble or dislike the hard pull and what can I do to improve it without spending an arm and a leg? I have a Springfield XD40 compact that really has a sweet trigger pull. If I could get this trigger like that one, I would love this gun. Thanks!

Agree and looking forward to a reply

I also have the Shield and am not real happy with the trigger. Matter of fact when I tried my friend's Walther PPQ M2 I was almost stunned at the difference. So, I am on the hunt for a trigger "fix" and am looking forward to a reply to your question. I normally carry a Glock 19 that has been modified and it is vastly improved over stock. However, I like the feel and balance of the Shield and if I can get the trigger right, it will most probably be my carry gun. Waiting (not so) patiently.

After a few Hundred rounds through mine, it smoothed out to a nice 5.5# (approx)... Just about as nice as my G26. I wouldn't really want it lighter than 5#.
I never really thought of the trigger as being a long, or heavy pull to begin with though.
For just a couple hrs of your time, you could try the Burwell's M&P Trigger job.

After shooting my Ruger LC380 for a year or so I find the trigger on the 9mmShield very comfortable. It is not a competition weapon and for self defense I find the trigger just about right.

Compared to my XDs 9 the trigger on my shield is gem.

Do you have a Massachusetts Shield with the required 10 lb trigger?
That's what I had to buy and had to get a trigger job, many install an apex trigger kit. Huge difference and well worth it.

I bought my Shield from a store in Minnesota. I think it has the normal trigger and I really don't care for it. i might contact S & W to see if they can do something with it.

Thanks for the link, but that is above my talent level.

If you find a fix, please let me know.

If you have the mechanical aptitude and know-how, just polish your trigger system.

You don't have to take any metal off or change sear geometries.

I polished the trigger on my M&P9c and it dropped from 9 to 5.5 pounds.

The sear and striker engagement areas were really really rough.

What is the SKU on the box? SKU's of 180050 and 180051 are guns compliant with the People's Repbulik of Massachusetts. Perhaps there was a MA compliant pistol in the mix.

The trigger on my Shield is about 6 pounds, which is normal.

My Shield 9MM trigger pull was horrid and verified by other shooters AND other Shield owners. After installing an APEX hard sear only, plus getting the round count to 865 - Voila! Much more accurate for me. I discovered using the very tip (and I mean very tip) of my trigger finger revealed POA is now POI. Plenty accurate (with my reloads) for a carry gun out to 20 yards and I'm pleased. But it took some work. Good luck!

Yeah I mean no disrespect or contradiction, but I've really liked the trigger. I bought my M&P Shield not 'out of the blue' but sort of, it came to me when I decided I needed a dedicated EDC gun, and I took a month to make a thorough search, and then without prior S&W/M&P experience (Outside say my Dad's Chief's Special or my 15-22) I just jumped.

I could not be luckier because it's exactly and I mean exactly what I need and all I want... virtually perfect really so far... Including the Trigger- I was very surprised and very happy. I am not the type of person to spout off trigger lbs. (nor measure nor really even care) but I do take notice to the weight and smoothness etc. I really like this trigger.

I also have read how they do sort of smooth out with use as you get into hundreds of rounds, which makes sense. But maybe you can try the Apex products for the trigger if you really don't like it?

Is it the no thumb safety model? I swear they made the trigger stiffer on the no safety model. Unfortunately I don't have my old shield to compare it with. I bought the apex sear for $41 on midway and installed it yesterday and the trigger feels 3lb lighter. I'll have the opportunity over the weekend to test the trigger pull to see exactly what it is.

I went from carrying an XD9sc to the Shield. I don't find mine bad at all. In fact, here is the target from the first 150 rounds:
