50 round box, made in Italy - runs great, no issues for range ammo. Consistent.
100 round plastic can, made in Bosnia-Hertz... Some of the worst ammo I've ever tried. No, THE worst. I think those 100 had 100 different loads. One lit up the range (nearly took my hand off, flame had everyone asking "what is he shooting?"), the next went poof instead of bang, the bullet fell to the floor before it got to the 25 yard backstop. The range guys asked if they were my first reload attempts.Detail checked the gun for cracks and damage when I got home.
All run through my Shield 9.
At the right price I'll buy the Italian variety again (but Federal is cheaper at WM most days). Never again for the 100 tub.

Now I don't shoot near as much as I'd like, so I'm not spending a ton on ammo, but I'd personally rather spend the extra couple bucks/box for Federal or WWB. But if you're shooting hundreds of rounds a month that couple bucks really starts to add up, so YMMV.

For the price, it is excellent. I have shot HUNDREDS of this stuff through my Glock 19 with nary a whimper, and it all seemed consistant. Shoots real nice.
It might be cheap Russian steel cased stuff, but that's what the Russians are best at making and it's what they go to war with. Actually I've never had a bad experience with ANY of the big name Russian ammo manufacturers like Tula or Barnaul etc. in guns that are made to take steel cased stuff.

I have shot a modest bit of Tula and it always went bang when I pulled the trigger It has a well-deserved reputation of being dirty.

If it's the only stuff available I'd use it, but I don't care for Polymer Coated Steel Cased ammo. I think it's dirtier than other brands and I've actually had bits of the Polymer coating caked onto my chamber. It doesn't really seem worth the $1 or so I might save.
I actually prefer the Tula BrassMax over the 'regular', but I'm not a fan of it either, if Federal Value Pack is available.

I've shot several hundred rounds of the 9mm in my Shield and my FS and never had a problem. If I remember correctly, I used it in my SCCY too with no issues.

Yes I use the steel case Tulammo & BrassMax. Never a problem in M&P9c or SD9ve. Last I found at WM was Tula $10.73 a box I got all they had. The BrassMax is a little more, closer to the price of Fed white box. Also used Perfecta it worked also.
Sure glad to see more 9mm available.

i've used Tula (boxed, brass) in my 9c with no issues, and if that is all i could find i'd probably try it again for range use.
Frankly i've probably ran 6-8 different brands/types of fmj ammo and haven't had a single issue with any of them as far as firing correctly.

I shoot mostly the Russian manufactured steel cased ammo. But all the guns I shoot it in have chrome lined chambers and bores.
At one time the wolf 45acp was only $6.67 a box of 50rds and the 9mm luger was around the same cost.

Although I typically use brass range ammo, I have used a little bit of steel ammo. It doesn't matter what we think of it, your pistol's opinion is the one that matters. If it runs in it, you can use it as inexpensive range ammo that will probably require you clean your firearm more often. A couple of my pistols that never have problems with brass occasionally have minor feeding problems with steel.

Agree 100%. Tula brass cased ammo in 50 round boxes from Italy is outstanding. Tula brass cases ammo in 100 round cans from Bosnia is ****. My PPQ M2 would eat everything, would have isues with bosnian ammo, especially during long range session. Basically gun would not go into battery and you could not pull the slide ro remove the round. Happened 3 or for times during shooting. I talked to one of range officers and he said that most likely case expanded due to heat and would not seat correctly all the way. Not sure if that is true, but only had an issue with Bosnian Tula ammo.

I use it, and some of the other Russian steel case ammo in my MP-15 and Saiga 7.62x39 almost exclusively with no problems whatsoever. Have used it in my .308 bolt action and my MP 9FS and 9c with no complaints. Yeah, it's dirtier than most brass, but for the price, it's great for punching paper.

Well... 7.62 is of Soviet origin and I'm guessing the PM-15 is probably 5.56 NATO?
I'd REALLY be surprised (more like shocked) if they didn't run well with with Steel Cased ammo.
I'd also be surprised to hear of any Glock, XD, Beretta, or other Euro-Made pistols having problems with steel cased ammo (following the old adage of 'Euro-made bullets for Euro-made firearms').

Have never fired ANY steel case ammo in ANY of my guns, and don't plan to. Tried the BrassMaxx ammo and it shot/functioned fine, would buy again if it ever comes back to our WM.
I try to stay with the known brands of ammo, but lately, some of that has issues. Glad I reload my own, but I do buy factory when I find it at a decent price. Just tried the Federal Aluminum 9mm and it shot great through my SD9VE. Wanted to try the 45acp, but when I inspected a few rounds from the box, the bullets could be pushed into the case with finger pressure. Had the same issue with the Federal Champion brass case 45acp, so I haven't bought any more of that either.

Only use steel cased in my SKSs. Well, technically my Mosins, too, but that's all Russian Surplus from the 70s.
I stick to brass/nickel for my pistols, and will use aluminum casings in my revolvers from time to time, if convenient.

Can't beat the $10.87 a box I paid. I bought 4 boxes at Wally World as well. In my experience I had a couple of duds out of 100 when fired through my P226. Haven't fired any through my M&P yet.

Check your range rules. Some do *not* allow steel cased or steel core ammo.
My local ranges all forbid Tula, Wolf and others by name and restrict any brands that use steel. Heck, some won't even allow Alum cased ammo.

I had the same experiences... the 50 round box was great, and the 100 round plastic can had one complete dud, and one that the rim of the casing sheered off of when it went to eject. The casing came out fine, but freaked me out enough that I field stripped it to be sure there wasn't anything left in the barrel or inside the gun. All was well.

I have not shot a lot of this ammo. I found it to be dirty and really in my area is not much cheaper than other brands. I never could warm up to the steel case ammo and one of my local ranges does not allow steel. I find that blazer brass and aguila is the most accurate and consistent in my shield 9mm.

I ran three magazines thru my sheild today, shot well, no problems, just a little dirty. I will buy more to target practice with because of the price. I dont reload 9mm anyway so the cases dont matter. It seemed to shoot as good as the fed or win, just a little more dirty.

I have tons and tons of Tula .223 and 7.62x39. I have a decent amount of 9mm and .45 as well, but have yet to really shoot it through my pistols. Just kinda saving it as a last resort.
Right now, aluminum is the same price (if not less) and I foresee a lot less internal wear on the guns as aluminum is softer than any of the parts it's coming into contact with.

I shoot tula chambered in 223,308 and 9mm. With the rifle ammo I've only had maybe 5rd with bad primers out of almost 6000rds. The rest all functioned properly. Accuracy is good enough for plinking. The 9mm is ok, its not very accurate and is loaded light. I picked up 500rd of 9mm a couple weeks ago and I'm not impressed with there current production. My first shot out of this case and I get a faint "poof", no hole in the target and no case ejected. Great way to start a range trip.Damm squib, barely bit the rifling. They forgot to put any powder in it is all i can figure. I ran it through and proceeded to shoot the remaining 99rd I'd brought with me. They all seemed extra light and varied in accuracy but functioned. I've shot thousands and thousands of rounds of 9mm tula and have had around 20rd with bad primers and 1rd with no powder. As far as being dirty, I shoot alot of both brass and steel and really can't see a huge difference. If your range allows it and your gun will eat it, its almost silly not to shoot it when your just plinking. Im not going down the whole steel vs brass hole but the money saved would easily pay for a barrel in the unlikely event that it gets shot out and S&W won't replace it. The brassmax 9mm in 100rd can is junk as others have said, don't waste your money. The brassmax 223 is actually pretty good stuff.

I used buy whatever was on the shelf...here lately the shelves have been full of all types of ammo...now I have options. I prefer brass cased ammo but have shot lots of TulAmmo, Wolf and Monarch which performed well except in my AR...had a few stuck cases...otherwise good stuff...shoot what you can afford...
