At first, I really wasn't all that interested in one because I REALLY like my Colt 1911-22. The downside to the 1911 though is that due to the slide design, I have as of yet been unable to find replacement sights for it. Mine is the government model with the plain black sights which is probably fine for most people but for me, I find it hard to line up the blades on a black bullseye.

A friend of mine at work picked up the M&P 22 Compact a couple of days ago however, and after handling it I must say, my interest is peaked.
It's very similar in size to my Shield and although notably lighter with a slightly longer barrel, the price is right so I may get one for myself. Plus, I never realized just how heavy my 1911 was until I held the Smith.

I picked up one of the M&P compact 22's and really like it, just shoot a few different brands of ammo in it and se which it prefers , mine seem to like the CCI mini mags pretty well.

My 1911-22 will eat anything I feed it. Hopefully, the Compact will do the same.

I picked mine up last weekend and shot 350 rounds through it this week. (It's nice having a range in my back pasture) I did not have a single problem with ANY of the ammo I shot! I shot the Winchester 555 bulk, The Federal Auto Match 325, Remington Golden Bullets 525, and CCI Velociter. Not a hiccup with any of them. I love the gun! Extra mags arrived USPS today. :D :D :D

Well that's good to know! I called my local gun store this last Wednesday but, he didn't have any in stock. It's now on order and should arrive this coming Tues. or Wed. so by Fri., I should be at the range having some fun.

My compact eats everything too and has over 800 rounds as of yesterday. My fullsize M&P 22 on the other hand is a little picky.:(

It's an epidemic!

One guy at work got one, basically let everyone look at and handle it, now several others want one. The owner of the LGS couldn't be happier...............he now has about 8 more on order and they're all going to people I work with..........including myself.:D

You should check out the Gsg/Sig 1911 22 too. It comes with yellow dot sights and there's aftermarket FO front sights as well. My wife loved it so much we got another one. We've been going through a lot of 22's lately because of the compact and gsg 1911.

My .22 Compact runs about everything, EXCEPT Federal LRN in the blue boxes, tagged #510, #510B, #710, and #745. Pity is that was what I've been able to get lately.

I have over 1200 rounds through it.

I get kind of fickle sometimes when it comes to guns. My reasoning for getting the Colt 1911 22 in the first place, was the fact that it was just as big and almost as heavy as a full size 1911 45.
After handling the M&P 22 Compact however, I've decided that the Colt is much heavier than I like and the fact that the 22 Compact is almost the same size as my Shield, makes it all that much more appealing.

When I eventually do buy another 1911, it will be a .45.

I like the whole M&P 22 trio:

If you like your 1911-22, the GSG is a twin to the Sig version:

Can anyone tell me why this M&P 22 Compact would be any better than my Ruger SR22?

BigWaylon, what grips that you have on your GSG 1911? Also who make the suppressor adaptor on the same gun?

I have both pistols. My Ruger went back for a new magazine disconnect, takedown lever, TD lever detent plunger, TD lever retainer pin, and TD lever spring, after approximately 300 rounds. It seems to be fine now, but it had an issue. I have over 300 through my new 22compact, without a hiccup.
I like the safety much more on the S&W, than on the Ruger. (I think the Ruger goes opposite of everything else I own)
I like the magazines on the Smith better, as well. Something about a shiny chrome look...
They both shoot about the same, accuracy wise, but I think the Smith has a better feeling trigger.
Since aquiring the .22c, my SR22 has been a safe queen. I've even been thinking about selling it.
That's my two-cents worth, and the Ruger lovers can jump on me if they want, however; I should point out that I own more SA Rugers pistols than anything else in my safe. I like the Ruger brand, but I like my Smith semi-auto .22 far more than my Ruger. YMMV

I picked mine up last weekend ...:D :D :D

Did you guys all apply for the Winchester 22 LR Ammunition Rebate? I believe it's active until the end of 2014. I just ordered a M&P 22 today......liked the M&P 9mm Shield so much I decided I needed another 22 pistol in the gun safe!

Your comments are why I ordered the compact 10 round model over the "regular" 12 round sized one.....heard a few stories like that on the Walther made M&P 22s. I would have actually preferred the larger model..........but I'm sure I'll enjoy the Compact just fine.

Oh Jeez, do a google search "compare SR22 M&P 22" and you will get lots of (conflicting) information. I know, I spent the morning trying to figure out which of those two fine pistols I would order. It's tough to know exactly what makes either of these better than the other; it depends. I went with the S&W M&P 22 Compact because I already have a M&P Shield, and their appearance/feel is about the same....holsters might even be shared; don't know yet. Not even sure if that matters to me, as I doubt I'd ever put the 22 in a holster. I also liked the S&W over the Ruger because the Ruger is just a bit smaller; that's good for some, but I wanted one a bit larger.

I'm sure others will chime in here.......

I might be able to help with that, I believe I have the same grips and adapter on my GSG 1911-22.

The grip is the overmolded Hogue rubber: Govt. Model Rubber Grip with Finger Grooves Black [45000] - $24.95 : Hogue Inc.

The adapter is the SilencerCo adapter with Sparrow thread specs (for o-ring engagement):

Silencershop carries the GSG 1911-22 adapter from SiCo for a few dollars less, as well a couple other brands if you don't need the o-ring engagement.
