This past weekend while running my wife and maybe future son-in-law through our combat course, I discovered that the left thumb safety had inadvertently caught on the holster somehow and rotated far beyond its normal position in the "safe" position. As in from about 10 o'clock normally to 2 o'clock. After clearing the pistol, I forced it back into its relative home position and tested the operation of the safety. It still works correctly, however the left safety lever is now noticeably looser than the right side.
I have seen that one of the members has a kit to remove the safety levers entirely, and while that is an option for me (I carry an M&P40 without a manual safety), the .22 is a training gun for my wife and daughter to transition from wheel guns to semis. I'd like to keep the safety so that they develop the habit of using a manual safety in case they ever need to.
I'd appreciate any input y'all have. I have not contacted S&W yet, I don't think it's a warranty issue, unless you are of the opinion that a manual safety should be made of metal and not plastic. Does anyone know of an aftermarket set of safety levers for the M&P22? Thanks for your help!
