M&P 22LR Compact ammo
Hello, I didn't see anything on this question when I looked for it, hope it is not a repeat of a old question. Anyway, I have a M&P 22LR Compact, and I love shooting that gun. But I have found that it just won't shoot .22 LR lead nose bullits for some reason. Almost everytime I try them they will shoot, but they will not eject from the gun at all. The case just stays in the barrle until I rack the gun again, then they will generally eject, but not always. I have had to put the ammo stick in the barrel and push the shell out a few times. Is this a problem everyone has or is it just me that has this problem? I can shoot cooper plated all day long with no jams or problems at all. Is there types of ammo that I just plain should not shoot in this gun? Thanks for any input on this problem. And have a great day.

Sounds like weak ammo to me, meaning not hot enough to cycle the slide properly and ejecting the spent round. I have had this problem recently with federal bulk.

Sounds like a bad batch of ammo. The only thing mine has trouble with is the current, pure junk, federal bulk that won't shoot out of any of my rimfires. I just shot a box of cci standard velocity and lunch time with lead bullets and they cycled fine. I need to dig out the box of federal auto match and try them. I think they have lead bullets.
Is your gun new? I think these guns need a bit of run in. I would try to put a couple hundred rounds of cci mini mags through it if you have any. Those seem to loosen things up and they never seem to have issues.

22 ammo problems
I have the same problem with Winchester 222 rounds of bulk ammo, 36 grain copper plated ammo. It won't cycle the bolt on my Ruger Mk 2 handgun.

lol, I don't know if it even has a name. That is what the guys at the range call it. They have I guess pieces of wood or maybe hard plastic that fits into different caliber barrels about 6 or so inches long and use it to put in the barrel when a bullet or shell did not eject. Just push in the barrel and shove the bullet or shell out. I don't know if they made them or if it something that is made for it that you can buy. I never seen them before, but never had this problem before.

Dennis,
I also have a .22 compact. It runs great with a lot of LRN ammo.
It does NOT like Federal Champion #510, 710, 745, American Eagle #22 (plated HP), and sometimes balks at Winchester HP from the 333 and 555 bulk boxes.
I got hold of a batch of the CCI standard velocity during the WalMart promo - that is LRN and runs like a top. It likes Remington golden bullet and even the much maligned Thunderbolt.

Weird..... I ran a whole box of American eagle though mine along with the cheap Winchester **** I got from M&P and never had any failures. I'm easily over 600 rds. now and it works fine.
Maybe you either haven't cleaned it enough, over lubed it with a thick lube, or you have a problem with it that needs service.

It's probably not lead vs copper that makes the difference, it's the velocity/energy. High velocity ammo is most often copper plated, and LRN ammo runs a little lower powered. Stick to some good high velocity ammo like Mini Mags for 500 rds or so, then try some more of the milder LRN's. The recoil spring might have softened up enough to run them by then. The only ammo I've had trouble with in my Compact is the Fed Champion 510. (that's a 40 gr LRN) That ammo's been bad even in my Ruger 22/45, and that eats just about anything. Surprised one poster had trouble with Fed 710's, as those are basically a Mini Mag equivalent.

It gets stripped after every range trip, Hoppe's oil or M-Pro 7 LP for lube. I did call Smith CS. They say ammo, of course.
Only mechanical issue is that the takedown level has worn a groove in the recoil spring assembly, which makes it a bit difficult to reassemble. They have promised a replacement.
The Winchester M-22 they promoted is actually much better than the 333/555 boxes. It runs great with CCI SV and the Federal Auto-Match.
I am at a bit over 4600 rounds.

Also - American Eagle LRN or plated works fine, just the #22 HP it doesn't like.

Thanks to everyone for your input. After reading the replies and checking the ammo, which was 30gr. I do believe the problem is the low gr ammo. So I will make sure I do not get anymore of that for sure.

I shoot Norma TAC-22 pretty much exclusively and have had no problems at all in my M&P 22C or 15-22..

Went to the range yesterday to shoot my new 22 compact for the wife. It ran 100rnds of Remington Thunderbolt & 50rnds of Winchester Wildcat flawlessly and choked on Federal American Eagle. I was sooo frustrated 'cause my son and I had shot the good stuff, unknowingly, and when my wife arrived she was Learning on the Federal which wouldn't feed properly. Has anyone else had probs with American Eagle 22LR?

The American Eagle HP plated (#AE022, the 40-round box) is problematic for me. I have relegated it to the "revolver only" box.
Check my posts (#9, 12, 13) above.

I hope I don't jinks myself, but I have run several different kinds of ammo without any issues.
On another note, I have not received my free ammo for buying the Compact. Anyone else received their ammo?

As for LRN, mine loves Blazer, but I usually feed it CP (MiniMag mostly)

I bought a M&P22c last week. I took it home, cleaned it, and took it to the range last weekend. I ran CCI Mini Mags, CCI Standard Velocity, and Remington Golden Bullets through it with out a hitch.
