Default Talk me into a M&P 9c

So, with some regret, I'm divorcing myself from my CZ75 omega. Just couldn't bond with it, so will be trading it for a compact gun & am considering the 9c. Already have a 9FS, and a XDS, so don't want a shield or FS.

Pupose will be carry, IDPA bug competition, wife's use for IDPA too

So let's have at it- pros and cons or alternatives

Thanks in advance

For the role you described, and the other guns you own, it sounds like a good choice to me.

I was able to test several other makes, models before throwing down the cash. It just fit in my hand better than the others combined with features and styling I liked it the best.

I enjoy my 9c, like the flex it offers for mags that can be used.
OP as you mentioned you already own a fs9 all you need is a couple xgrip adapters and you can take advantage of the fs mags you already own in a 9c should you desire a higher round count

You already are familiar with the M&P and Glock platforms, so it is either the M&P9C or the G19 IMO, whichever feels better to you and your wife. Either will serve you well.

Why not get a M&P 40c and buy the ".40 to 9mm" conversion barrel from Storm Lake for an extra $150 or so? Effectively gives you two guns in one with a little added versatility in the event of a future ammo shortage? I love my 40c! If you decide to go with the 9c that would also be a great choice - can't go wrong with M&P's! I'm on my third one now

If you want to get really crazy, Storm Lake makes a .357 sig barrel for the M&P .40 compact. As far as I know, due to barrel size, you cannot use these barrel upgrades with the M&P 9c, but the 40c can be switched to 9mm or .357 sig. I have not done it to mine yet but a friend just purchased a "gently used" Storm Lake ".40 to 9mm conversion" barrel from one of the local LGS for his M&P 40c and ran 100 rounds through it a few days ago with no issues.

When I was looking for a Compact, I tested the XDMc side-by-side with the M&Pc. For me, the XDMc felt better to shoot. I like the G19, XDMc, G26/27, THEN the M&Pc in that order, but I'm not in the market for a Compact... You are.

Between rentals, friends that already own the pistols you're interested in, or asking the guy in the next shooting lane at the range that may let you try a few rounds, You need to actually shoot any & all contenders that make your short list and make your own side-by-side comparisons, so you don't end up making another CZ75 'Mistake'.

The better question is why NOT get a 9c?

Pros..
Good capacity
Being able to use 12 or 17 round mags (you can use the 17 round mags w/o the xgrip)
Very accurate
Feels good in your hand
Not hard to cc
Add the Apex DCAEK kit (I also added the polymer trugger) and you have the "perfect" gun.
Good for plinking at the range, HD, competition and cc

Cons.
Can be a little heavy to cc

I carry mine in a N82 Pro holsted. Very comfortable! For the days it won't work due to weight or clothing choices, I carry a Sig p938, also a 9mm. However due to it's short sight radius, it would not be the best for IDPA. The 9c should work well in IDPA. I have shot my 9c many times in USPSA bug gun matches. The shorter sight radius (compared to a fs gun) does not seem to be as big deal as it is with the Sig. The Sig has taught me all about sight radius. Lol
My 9c converted the darling husband to polymer guns. He used to be a hard core 1911 guy. He now has 3 M&P's compared to my 2 (I am not counting my rifles).

I've owned three CZs, and never could quite bond with mine, either. I owned a P-09 for over a year, and it shot great. I then bought a P-07 to go with it, as a compact option, but my wife didn't like it (the slide was super stiff). I sold the P-07 and bought an M&P Shield, which I just adore. Then I sold the P-09 with the intention of buying a fullsize M&P 9, but got distracted and bought a CZ 75 BD POLICE. Awesome gun...but same problem as the other CZs...I just couldn't "get right" with them. So I sold it...in fact, I ship it to the guy's FFL today.

I will buy an M&P 9 this afternoon, from the same dealer I use to ship my CZ. No distractions this time!

Welcome to the M&P world.

You said talk you into it. OK, if you DON'T buy a 9c we will all think/know you are a dummy and we won't talk to you anymore, you dog will run away from home, and your relatives will all exclude you from their wills. Howzat?

Or you could just consider that the 9C is arguably the single best compact 9mm pistol available at a price that normal people can afford. If you can afford a Sphinx, by all means, do it -- otherwise the 9c will serve you well and last 3.7 lifetimes.

Boy, I was going to post a picture of my 9C that I've had since 2008, but after seeing dubnali's pictures I decided not to. That really looks nice.

My 9C is approaching 14K rounds. Never had a gritty trigger, never broke a striker like some did in that earlier batch and remains original except for recoil springs and a dot of white nail polish on the front sight.

Can't go wrong with a 9C.

Dave

LOL- feeling the love (kids already think I'm a dummy, dog died, and relatives have no money) so guess I'll look at the MP9C.

In fact going to the local gun dealer to see what we can hammer out. Need to play w/ both 9c and Glock 19, but leaning 9c for many reasons stated here

Thanks for all the feedback- really appreciate it

9C fits very well in my hand and shoots extremely well. No complaints about it's performance. Sure you can compare it to other comparable handguns. You also have a lifetime warranty with S&W, should anything go wrong. Some of the others only offer 1 year. Before purchasing a 9C, I used a 39-2.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Bought mine from a friend who was a Court Officer. County
done away with his job before he got a chance to shoot it.
I've had it about a year and have put at least 500 rounds thru
it without a single malfunction. I CC IWB in a DeSantis Cozy
Partner. Loaded, it weighs what my SIG P220 Combat weighs
empty which I CC IWB also. The M&P9c is on my hip right now.
It's accurate, dependable and fun to shoot.

Exactly my thinking- as stated originally, I have a M&P 9 FS, love the gun, served me well in IDPA before I got on the Revolver kick (Won the State match in my div/classification w/ my 625)

So will fondle and compare the 9C w/ the G19 tonight. Will report back later w/ what I decide to do.

Thanks for all the replies & feedback!

I've had one for about a year. Also have the FS 9 and 45. This gun replaced a G26 and 640 as backup/off-the-click gun. I prefer the ergonomics s of the M&P over the Glocks, and the capacity & sights over the 640. The M&P may be slightly bigger in profile and about as wide as the Glock, but it is less brick-like and seems to conceal and carry better for me. Accuracy is good - about the same as the baby Glock. It may not be perfect, but it is an authorized weapon by my employer, while the Shield or the G43 is not. The 9c has been around long enough that there should be fee surprises, and it there are, there is always the factory warranty.

It's a neat piece one I have shoots better than its big brother which seems to be a theme with Smith compact autos.
Mine replaced a G19 as its close to being a 19 but smaller thus making it a better mid size carry piece.

Traded it for a M&P compact today, the gun arrives from the disturber hopefully on Friday. Looking forward to getting it.

I'd just go with the 9c. Switching to 40S&W isn't really worth the increase in recoil, noise, recovery between shots, and ammo price. Not to mention modern self defense ammo has bridged the gap considerably.

Unless you need the 40 S&W for barrier penetration it's kinda moot. The caliber seems to work best in full size guns as well.

The M&P9FS is a soft shooter and feels great for rapid fire. The 9c might have a bit more kick, but is very control-able.

This coming from a guy who had the 40 FS and sold it to get the 9 FS.

IMO the M&P9c is close to perfect in size, capacity, and felt recoil for a smaller double stack gun. The ergos of the 45c have it beat however.

9mm can be cheap, soft shooting. Yet very hot self defense ammo exists.

Pick what you are comfortable with. As for me I prefer 9mm. The +p+ stuff comes very close to +p 40 S&W loads. Not to mention that +p comes very close to standard 40 S&W defense loads.

The money you waste on a conversion barrel can be improved sights, an apex sear/ultimate striker block ,or ammo.

If you absolutely want fire power in a semi-auto pistol. Get a 10mm.
Sadly you are limited to Glock, CZ, EAA, Sig, and older S&W autos.

I have read all of the comments above. I have read and handled a few 9c's and like 'em. I plan to buy a 9c in a few months.

Don't do it! Get an old 457 instead.

I have the 9, 40 and 357 in M&P compacts...love 'em. Minnesota is trying to pass legislation for suppressors so I have a Storm Lake threaded barrel for the 9 in anticipation! I hand load so mid range loads in 124g or 147g 9mm will be well within subsonic territory out of a 3.5" barrel.

Sorry, didn't mean to drift. The M&P compacts are a great choice and I prefer them over the Shields.

Honestly the 9c is pretty damn heavy for what it is, hell my carry 1911 is 39oz vs 9c at 21.7oz. I can see why the 9c and 40c are almost exactly the same for manufacturing cost savings. I really love the feel of my 40c and would have gotten the 9c but it's almost the exact same weight. Much lighter 9mms out there for carry.

I love the m&p line but some things just don't make sense like the 45 mag capacity. At only a 2 round difference than my 1911 I carry my 1911 over my m&p45. Main reason is those 2 rounds don't out weigh thickness of the m&p when compared to the 1911 or the trigger on the 1911.

Had the chance to shoot my new 9c today in an IDPA classifier. I classified & while not as good as I had wanted, was pleased in that it was thee first time I shot the gun. Overall am very pleased with it.

I weighed my 9c loaded 12 + 1 on the digital postal scale and mine came in at 1 lbs. 15.2 oz (31.2 oz.). Definately heavier than your 21.7 oz.
