Default Original Bodyguard 380 questions

I have a chance to get a original Bodyguard 380 with the Insight laser. Are they good guns? How reliable are they? Are they ammo sensitive? Why did they change the lasers to a different brand?

the insight lasers were poorly constructed. there was a problem with the switches, guncleaning solvents adversely affected them causing them to fall apart and the laser to become unusable. S&W then switched to crimson trace who redesigned the switches so the problem is gone. The good news is when it goes bad, S&W will replace it with a crimson trace laser. I have one of the early ones and they did it for me no charge. I haven't had any problems since. As far as ammo, they tend to dislike hard primers, i use federal ammo in mine with no trouble.

I use what ever the range has in stock, and I have never had a problem. Smith replaced my Insight Laser also. I like it so much, i got a second one.

Did you have to send it in to replace the laser? Would being a 2nd owner be an issue?

i didn't have to, i called them, told them my problem, and gave them the info on my gun (serial etc). they sent me the replacement kit so i wouldn't have to send the gun in. cost me nothing. i am the second owner of mine, they didn't even ask about that. I sent in my bad laser at their request. the kit even came with new batteries and red buttons.
