Just wanted to share what I have been looking at for a red dot for M&P40 PERFORMANCE CENTER PORTED Long. I have been looking at the Leupold Deltapoint, Trijicon, and the new Vortex Viper from Vortex Optics which is about to be released. It will also co-witness. Check out the Video. Vortex Optics - Viper Red Dot 6 MOA Dot

Vortex Viper vs. Leupold Deltapoint
1) Vortex Viper as adjustable intensity of red dot not automatic. I have the choice to red dot or not to red dot. Leupold always one
2) Will co-witness both will co-witness
3) Viper locking screws are accessible while on the unit is on the gun no need to remove like the leupold. (This was answered by Vortex on their Q&A section)
4) Price Vortex Viper $229 Leupold $375-400
5) Warranty Vortex Viper life time no question asked warranty. Leupold 2 year for electronics.
6) Appears that the Leupold view is wider and more natural Vortex may be a bit blue green.
7)Outside marking for adjusting more details on the Vortex Viper.

From what I have gathered the following are the red Dots that will co-witness
1)Vortex Viper $229
2) Leupold Deltapoint $400
3) Trijicon RMR $600 +
4) Doctor $425
5) Jpoint might but lens is not glass it is acrylic $256

Based on this I am going to order the Vortex Viper. Do not take me wrong Leupold and Trijicon have a great reputation and make great products but based on the features you get, the price point, warranty and the customer services I would go for the Vortex.

My Trijicon RMR started having problems the second week I had it. It would shut off while shooting. I would rack the slide and it would come back on for a while. Amazon refunded my money and I ordered the DeltaPoint. I got the 3 MOA dot the 6 is to large for target shooting IMO.

My look at these lead me to believe neither Deltapoint 2 nor the new Delta point Pro will fully co-witness on a CORE. Some that S&W say will co-witness do not fully. I puta Trijicon RMR on mine. You can co-witness to the bottom of the white sight dots on the fixed sights. No idea about Vortex but you can get the measurements and figure it out.

3) Viper locking screws are accessible while on the unit is on the gun no need to remove like the leupold. (This was answered by Vortex on their Q&A section)

I just looked at the Q&A section and that question is #32 and has NO answer (for 2 months). Even if they did answer it and say the lock screws were accessible, I wouldn't believe it, just look at the pictures.

Hi, below is the question that i asked with the answer. In thier QA section you have to click on the top right to see multiple answers to one question. They do reply by saying have access not actually "locking"

pre-ordred at auth. dealer. Going M&P 40core long ported. In the pictures all the screws are flat heads yet in the instruction it says it includes t10 torx wrench. Is that for mounting screws. Do you have access to locking screws while mounted on gun

The T10 wrench is for the screws that mount to the included weaver base. The lock screws are a very small flat head which is included with the optic. On the CORE you can access the lock screws when mounted on the gun.

I see the question and answer now (no comment necessary on you needing to lead me directly there ). However, from looking at their pictures, I still can't see how there is access to the lock screws while mounted. After you get yours, please post a pic of you accessing them.

I will definitely post pictures and provide a full review of the quality and installation process. I hope I will be able to use the locking screws with out removal.

Keep you all posted. The expected delivery date is June-July.

I ordered mine on Amazon and the delivery date was months away but the sight showed up in less then a week. I could get to the locking screws while the Deltapoint was mounted after having the rear sight removed. The way I read the instruction that came with it it said to unlock, make adjustments, relock and shoot. Well now that it is adjusted and the rear sight replaced it stays right where I put it. The iron sights work fine with the Deltapoint the red dot sits right on top of the front sight.

I have a Vortex sight on one of my ARs. Have always been pleased with it. Is there a date for release of this new sight? I am still in the cogitating stage of whether to buy a 9MM CORE 4.25" for EDC. :D

Hi, I just wanted to update those that are interested. According to Vortex the release is currently postponed due to battery life issues. I have read somewhere it may also getting a redesign. So I am still waiting.

I've been looking at these mini red dots for my AR and one thing I don't think you mentioned was that the Leupold has an auto on from movement. I don't think the Vortex has that. I like the idea of getting a vortex because the company is in my state, not overly far from me. And I think it has a 3 moa dot. I forget what size the leupold's was.

Either way I'm looking forward to seeing the range report and what you think of it.

Have you considered the vortex venom? I have one on a 1911 and love it. 3moa is easy to find also, I thought it might be too small but I am very pleased.

I spoke with Vortex yesterday about the New Viper and they told me that production has been postponed INDEFINITELY. He did not give me a reason why - He just said he was advised recently by corporate.

Vortex Viper On M&P9 Performance CORE

Just got the newly released Viper today. It Co-Witnesses perfectly. I'll post results of battery life later in the week.

I had my slide milled on my S A 9mm RO so it was like a CORE and put a viper on it and love it. It is as good as the Deltapoing on my 40 CORE.

Lock screws access ?

No way, remove it, zero in, and remove it to tighten lock screws.
Too close to rear sight.

But......... $300 less then a Trijicon RMR makes it worth the extra work to zero it in.
Both have bottom mounted batteries.

For a range toy, Vortex

For an EDC... Deltapoint. just because the auto on and auto brightness.

Only 1 problem with that, Delta Point (that's fits) is no longer made.

Now it's a Delta Point Pro, and you need a special mount plate
that Leupold "just" came out with to fit the S&W.

That plate is $60.00 extra. And the Delta Pro is $599
For that kind of money, get the Trijicon RMR

The Viper is $220, bolts on with the #5 plate and has a lifetime warranty
