Default Long Time S&W Owner New To M&P

Well I did it. I have been shooting my SD9VE and SD40VE for a long time now and was carrying a snub nose .38 for EDC. I wanted a small semi-auto to carry so I bought me a .40 Shield. I knew that I wanted to stick with S&W and I have looked at the Shield since they came out but never made the move. Academy has them for $389.99 so I couldn't pass it up. I took it to the range yesterday and shot some Federal FMJ and Hornady ammo through it and it worked flawlessly. I was not surprised that it did since even my lower priced SD-VE's have worked flawlessly. S&W really make some awesome products and I am a satisfied customer.

Congrats!
S&W hit a homerun when they came up with the Shield.

Well, 5 weeks from the time I contacted S&W about my cracked slide I finally got my Shield back. Not sure what to think about the janky roll marks that look worse than my SD-VEs. Did they use a engraving tool to make these or what? The original slide had a better look but maybe I’m just being picky. Should I be so negative or should I be concerned about how it might affect resale or trade? I’m thinking that if I don’t like it maybe other people won’t either. Don’t get me wrong, S&W customer service is one of the best I’ve ever had to deal with but I don’t know about how this looks.

What in the blazes bothers you about the markings on the slide? Yeah, personally, I think you're being unresonably picky but this is all about personal opinions. If it bothers you, your right. Don

It doesn’t look as nice as the original slide. If I saw this and another one with the original roll marks at a store I would buy the better looking one. It looks like they used a engraving tool on it. Like I said the marks on a SDVE look better in my opinion. I don’t think it’s unreasonable at all. I spent my money on this pistol so I can be as picky as I want to be I suppose.

IMHO, I think you're being overly picky. But it obviously bugs the heck out of you so I'd sell it and go to a store that has several in stock and pick one which passes your appearance expectations, that is, if you still want a Shield.

On a side note...how does it shoot?

Some Shield owners like me paid full MSRP and waited weeks for them to arrive back in 2012 and 2013. My wait was 12 long weeks.

I like my guns to look their best, too, but the Shield was intended to be a holster jockey and not a safe queen.

Well then, thanks for the insults. This used to be a great forum to come and talk about stuff.

Good day.

I know it's hard to make what the eyes see appear clearly in photos, but the photos provided do not show the complaint too well.

Hi Bill-
I see what you are referring to, the S&W logo looks like a light strike or something. I do not think it will hurt resale or trade. Over the years I have noted a huge variation on roll marks, specifically on revolvers. M&Ps are assembly line production guns so as long as the slide is within spec and the inter machining is nice and clean I think you are good to go.
