What ammo do you use for 40c home defense
Just as the title says, what ammo and grain do you like to use in the 40c for home defense? (does not have to be a 40c just M&P in general.)

Barnes Tac-X PD, 140 gr. All copper, huge opening and deep cavity in the bullet. This round has low recoil.

Personal defense
My nightstand gun is a 40c talo with the extended mag. I alternate Federal HST with Hornady critical defense. Topped with 2 critical defense due to low flash. All 180 grain.

In my Sig P226 and P239 40S&W's I use 155 grain Federal Premium Hydra Shok for self defense. I know it's not a S&W but it's still a great defense round.

The reason I ask, my home defense rounds are hornady but they have been loaded for at least 2 years. Yes I use federal fmj for target but I just moved in to an apartment and I do not want over penetration to harm neighbors but I do want stopping power

I also use the Federal HST's in 180 grain, although I suspect the lighter bullets are good too.
There are some youtube videos of people testing them. Pretty useful information in making a decision in my opinion.

Liberty Civil Defense is what I carry in my Glock car gun. After seeing what it did to that deer I had to dispatch last year, I would hate to see what it would do to a person. I don't think a man could survive a shot to the chest area with these Liberty rounds even if he was shot in a hospital.

I use Speer Gold Dot 165 gr in both the M&P40 & 40C. I also have some Federal HST 185 gr & Hornady Critical Defense 165 gr left.

Me too. I've got some 180g and some 165g. It's easier for me to find than the HST and it has some pretty good reviews.

I have made countless number of head shots on wounded deer in my 25 year police career. Always one shot, always devastation. Also finished off a 385 lb black bear with a shot to the back of the head. Also stopped several large attacking dogs with one shot.
I have no doubt that any round will stop a human threat if impact is center mass or in the head or neck. Practice head shots at the range guys, in case the threat is wearing body armor.

There's something reassuring about seeing what a round does when fired from your own gun.
180gr Ranger test fired into water jugs from my Kahr PM40, which is my OWB carry gun.
Of course this round has always functioned perfectly for many hundreds of rounds over the years.
It is accurate too!
Life is good!
