Post Apex Forward Set Sear Kit

Do you guys recommend installing this trigger on an m&p40 fs? I fixed the gritty trigger on it but the travel is way too long for my liking. What do you guys think? Or what experiences have you had? Good and bad. I am looking into the polymer FSS kit. Thanks!

I put one in my M&P 9mm and love it. You need to know which sear spring you have in yours. They changed the design from a 1/16" diameter spring and plunger to a 1/8" diameter sometime in late 2009. Any idea when yours was made?

The FSS kit reduces the trigger pull a lot. Down to about a third of the original travel.

The standard AEK and optional trigger reduce pull as well, but not as much.

The AEK keeps the same feel to the trigger pull, take up, break and then a little over travel.

The FSS has little take up and more overtravel.

I do not have the forward set trigger and haven't tried one. However, I read up on them and did some searching/asking here and elsewhere when I was contemplating a trigger upgrade on my Pro 40L.

Everyone says that for competition shooting the forward set trigger kit is the way to go. But Apex and a number of thoughtful posts suggest that you are setting up a gun that is potentially unsafe for defence applications. You don't really say what your intended use is.

My Pro 40 is my bedroom gun, so I went with the Apex Duty Carry Action Enhancement Kit (DCAEK) and their polymer trigger. There is still a good bit of takeup, so fireing the gun is definately going to be an intended act. But it is shorter than stock, and over travel is practically nill (you can adjust this, I left in a little for reliability).

I was still sort of unhappy with the trigger pull weight (sorry, I don't have a measurement tool for exact numbers). I switched out the Apex trigger spring for the original S&W spring and, voila great trigger! It may not be the trick setup for race guns, but anyone shooting stock triggers would likely smile broadly.

I hope this helps a bit.

Edit: I should mention that, though there is a decent amount of initial takup on the trigger stroke, the reset is only a small fraction of that, so follow-up shots don't require nearly the full trigger stroke. I don't have it, but you might want to consider the Apex RAM that enhances tactile feel of the reset if that is a concern.

Ok thank you all so much. And this pistol is just for use at the range, that's all.

If you scroll down to the bottom of this page you will find a number of links talking about Apex FSS kits. Lot's of good info there. I have them in my comp pistols. I prefer the flat trigger.

I'm thinking of having the Apex Duty Carry Action Enhancement Kit (DCAEK) or the Apex Flat Faced Forward Set Trigger Kit installed with the flat trigger. Setting it up with a 5-6pound trigger pull. Right now my trigger pull on the 40c I have is 9.8 pounds and feels like it has 2 distinct stages and is very gritty through the complete pull.

Does the Glock style trigger safety bother you at all or is it even noticeable when your shooting ? I'm use to either no trigger safety or the hinge style S&W uses.
