I do not have the forward set trigger and haven't tried one. However, I read up on them and did some searching/asking here and elsewhere when I was contemplating a trigger upgrade on my Pro 40L.
Everyone says that for competition shooting the forward set trigger kit is the way to go. But Apex and a number of thoughtful posts suggest that you are setting up a gun that is potentially unsafe for defence applications. You don't really say what your intended use is.
My Pro 40 is my bedroom gun, so I went with the Apex Duty Carry Action Enhancement Kit (DCAEK) and their polymer trigger. There is still a good bit of takeup, so fireing the gun is definately going to be an intended act. But it is shorter than stock, and over travel is practically nill (you can adjust this, I left in a little for reliability).
I was still sort of unhappy with the trigger pull weight (sorry, I don't have a measurement tool for exact numbers). I switched out the Apex trigger spring for the original S&W spring and, voila great trigger! It may not be the trick setup for race guns, but anyone shooting stock triggers would likely smile broadly.
I hope this helps a bit.
Edit: I should mention that, though there is a decent amount of initial takup on the trigger stroke, the reset is only a small fraction of that, so follow-up shots don't require nearly the full trigger stroke. I don't have it, but you might want to consider the Apex RAM that enhances tactile feel of the reset if that is a concern.
