An hour and a half yesterday on the range convinced me of several things:
147 gr kicks disproportionately more than 115 gr. I wasn't expecting THAT level of muzzle flip, but controllable.
Lasers on everything: I chewed a nice dollar bill sized hole with 7 rounds at 10 yards with the laser. With my non-laser LCR 9mm I can't SEE 10 yards. Co-witness laser and hi viz sights is a great discipline for old eyes.
Talon Grips make all the difference in repeatability of correct grip. Almost like memory foam. A bargain at twice the price.
I need Lasix. I'm having to use my non-dominate eye (without a contact) in order to see the front sight. Dominate eye with contact can't focus on the sight radius. Back to glasses for now.
For $200, the Hi Point Carbine is adequately accurate, unbreakable, almost Military in construction (like a closed bolt Grease Gun), and makes interesting mechanical noises if you touch the cup of your ear muffs to the stock during cycling. You can hear the primer ignite, the breech unlock, the springs compress and stretch, and the cartridge/bolt seat. A great truck gun.
The Apex Duty/Carry and trigger are amazingly better than the stock unit. Reset is almost an unthinking process. Fire and the trigger tells you just how much to release before reset. Butter smooth, and while it is a $200 saddle on the $20 horse that is my ability, well worth the investment.
Why are the stalls at most ranges so dark? I know it cuts glare down range, but I'd like a small downward shining light to ignite the hi viz sights and so I CAN SEE WHAT I'M RELOADING!
A great afternoon, very enjoyable, confidence building, and just a little high on all those fumes!
Now if I could just see the front sight clearly....
