Does your 380 Bodyguard bulge like this?
Picked up a new MP Bodyguard a week or so ago and never really noticed the bulge until today, is mine "special" or do they all do this?

I don't have a bodyguard but I'm pretty sure that's not supposed to look like that.

Bulge is not a good thing..... Have you shot it since you picked it up, or did it come NIB that way? In either event, I would not fire it that way. Curiosity prompts me to ask - if you have fired it, what type of ammunition did you use?

Something bad caused that....
Something bad caused that and I wouldn't fire it any more. It needs to be returned unless it was an 'as is' deal. Whoever sold that is crooked. Anybody can see that's way off being right. If you can't return is the best you could probably do is a wall hanging or a paperweight, but since I'm a foolish person, I would ask if there is somebody that could straighten it. I don't know if the factory would be any help but they would be the best bet. Maybe they have a magician in house. Maybe they would replace the side? They might make you a deal on a new one or something. If it can't be put back in specs, ditch it.
"Magician' is a strange word to use, but believe me, I've met a few.

It is not right. Both sides should be flat and true. How does the slide look? I would return the gun. Do not fire it.

send a picture to smith & wesson. my guess is they will treat you right. that is defective probably from the factory. if the store that sold it to you has any integrity they will take it back. if not, go the Smith & Wesson route.

should look like this one... just call S&W Customer Service and send it back, they'll make it right for you. and maybe find a new gunshop, that one is not your friend.....

I have only shot 15 rounds of Remington 95grn fmj thru it, I'll send a pic to S&W and see what they want to do, I would think they'll make it right, I kinda like this little gun, hope it's a keeper.
I bought brand new from a local gun shop, I might stop by there and see what they think, I sent an email to S/W customer support and attached a pic, I'll post back what they say, thanks for the replies and the pics.

Our friends at Academy Sports clearly state (repeatedly) that there are NO RETURNS but, if a problem arises bring the gun back to them and they will return it to S&W for service. Sounded like an OK deal to me.

Nice that some of you guys can get so much pleasure out of the OP’s bad luck.
Seriously, the OP should definitely return that to the store or S&W, but…this is not a trend. In 4 years of owning a BG380 and following the online communities, I’ve never seen a report of this kind of defect before now. If the frame and rails are straight, it’s most likely a rare factory defect in the polymer grip casting. Simple for S&W to swap out. Every gun maker lets a bad one slip through once in a while, but they will make it right.

I've only had to contact Smith & Wesson regarding my 686 and obtaining an allen wrench for my BG380. In both instances, customer service was polite, professional and prompt.

I've had mine since February and fired 600 + rounds of FMJ & HP and it looks straight as an arrow, both sides.

Friendly hint:
Call S&W on the telephone, they aren't very prompt in answering emails.

I'm thinking this is a molding issue when they made the plastic part. I see the metal bits look straight. I probably would not be happy with that, it is probably perfectly serviceable. Mine is fine.

That's what I'm thinking also, I think it's more cosmetic than anything else, I'm really not that worried about it but I know it's not right. I'm pretty confident S&W will make it right.

The bulge is definitely not right as others have stated, and S&W customer service is the place to contact. I would be very interested in hearing about what caused this, if you would keep us updated would be much appreciated. Thanks and good luck.

Definitely, please keep us posted. This will be interesting. Since it was new, they should replace it. Again how did that get out of the factory door? Could it have been damaged in shipping? it really looks like it was deformed in the manufacturing process because being bulged out would have had to have been blown out from the inside by a too hot round or mechanically 'pried' out.

Spoke to a nice lady in customer service, she emailed me a shipping label and said they would take care of it, so far so good, I'll follow up when I get the gun back. Have a Merry Christmas.
