Default Breakdown problems.

My wife and I just purchased an M&P Shield .40, when I got it home I followed the instructions to field strip and clean. While stripping, I was sliding the slide forward when it jammed and would not go any further, I tried to reverse the steps but now the sear will not go back in place and seems "stuck" in the down position. My wife's broke down exactly the way it should and went back together. Does anyone have any thoughts on this and what I could do to fix this problem? Thank you

Howdy from South Carolina, and welcome to the forum.

Did you try pulling the trigger?

Can you post a pic of it's current condition? Your description is confusing.

I figured it out, the slide finally slid off the lower receiver. The slide had to be forward to push the sear back into place, it would not with the slide locked back.
