Picked up two 15 round Pro Mags for my M&P 40 for $17 a piece. Saw a couple reviews but not from people who'd actually shot them just cosmetic reviews. So yesterday I went shooting.
First off the Pro Mags did appear to be cosmetically inferior and inferiorly constructed in every way over factory mags. Plenty of people who have discussed that already. Cheaper plastic, thinner gauge spring, the finish was obviously not up to quality. Also unlike factory mags the Pro Mags are not marked for 40 S&W/.357 Sig. This will never be a problem for me but could easily be for other people. They did feature the round count peek holes. They do hold the slide open after the final round. I will post pics later.
I only purchased two Pro Mags. One fired off 150 rounds without a hiccup. The other however had 28 failure to feeds out of 30 rounds. I believe the follower needs to be sanded with high grit sandpaper and tried again. I will report back after and also let you guys know as the round count gets higher. As of now I would not recommend for carry but I would like to find cheap chuck around mags.
Just so you know, I was using the cheapest ammo possible, Perfecta 170 grain FMJ. It's around $12.30 here for 50 rounds, even cheaper than bulk, and I've never had a problem with through my 40 or my .357 mag, or my girlfriends 40 or my Dads .357 mag. Ever. I carry Federal but I'm going cheap when I'm blasting hundreds of rounds in an hour.
