Default plan for my 40C

I currently have a M&P 40C. I am leaning towards doing the 9mm conversion, if I can ever find a barrel in stock. I am leaning this way for 3 reasons. One is the boss(my wife) can shoot the 9 but doesnt like the 40. Second is faster follow up shot if shtf, and third is much cheaper ammo cost. I looked on my LGS website, and 500 rounds of 40 cal. is $150 and 1000 rounds of 9mm is $180. Doesnt seem like it would take too long to get the cost of the conversion back.

I am still debating on putting a laser on. On bedroom/living room length shots I dont care about focusing on the sight, I dont need multiple shots in the same hole, just need multiple shots on target quickly. My reason for the laser would be for when more precision is needed. I am farsighted in one eye, nearsighted in the other, and have not been able to get the front sight in focus worth a hoot. A laser would also help during dry fire practice.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Does this sound reasonable, or am I overthinking things?

You can get the 9mm barrel from Midway. $80.00 or so, and mine worked fine. I had one for the full size .40, and the 40c, as well. No problems with either one. I would recommend the 9mm mags, though. Some have reported that the .40 mags will work, but that was not my experience.

Good luck!

thanks, I am currently waiting for a notification from Midway when(if) they get the barrel in stock. I will get the stock one if I can find one, otherwise I will go with Storm Lake if I cant find a stock one.

They are OOS, but you can set up a notification when it comes in. Be ready to JUMP as soon as you get the notice.

Good afternoon:

I have the 40c that I bought used a few years ago. It came with the Crimson Trace laser grips. I subsequently added a 9mm Storm Lake barrel and magazines - purchased from a fellow Forum member. I also added Truglo TFO sights:

TRUGLO® | Brite•Site™ TFO™ (Green/Green)

The 9mm conversion works just fine. I have not tried using the .40S&W magazines with the 9mm rounds - why try when you have the proper magazines? The TFO sights are a nice addition.

I personally like the laser grips, but be advised if you use them, you are stuck with that size of backstrap (large?). Thankfully, they work well for me and are a good fit.

For your wife, you might have her shoot some of the 180gr. loadings in the .40S&W. I can shoot those without a lot of problems, and they seem to be more comfortable for me to shoot than lighter weight loadings.

Good luck,

Dave
