Has anyone ported an Apex 5" M&P barrel?

I bought the M&P 9mm Performance Center Ported CORE 5" several months ago to make an entry level USPSA competition pistol. The ports helped the muzzle flip.

I found the accuracy was unacceptable, got an Apex SDI, and it's 3" at 25 yrds now. But, I lost the advantage of the ports.

Apex customer service warned me off of porting the Apex barrel when I talked to them about. I never got a clear answer why not, except the normal concerns about losing accuracy with porting, which I believe has been debunked.

Has anyone out there ported their Apex barrel in their M&P 9?

Personally, I think ported barrels have a limited advantage when I comes to accuracy. I have a ported Core that sits in the bag as a backup, but normally I use a compensated barrel. I think the Apex barrel is the way to go but I'm waiting until Randy finishes moving out of CA and makes a 5" threaded barrel for me. Compensated Open pistols have been the proven way to accuracy in competition. I've been getting impatient lately and have considered welding up the KKM threaded barrel and do some experimenting, but with my recent cancer surgery, I have time to invest waiting for Apex to come up with a barrel. Oh, BTW, for those of you that know about my cracked slide, S&W had made the decision to replace the entire pistol. I'm pretty happy about that.

I have the PC ported 9L, I got tried of the front sight fouled from porting. My KKM no ported no threaded just arrived Saturday. Look forward to trying out this coming weekend. KKM give my a military discount.
