Default Question about Magguts and modifications (legal)

So I'm interested in the magguts spring kit for my shield 9 but then I hesitate because if I'm using the gun for my edc..... well, then that would be a modification. So.... ???

Also, where is that line drawn? For instance, say I wanted different magazine bottoms? Or a different back plate with a cool design?

What about the painting of the lettering?

Thoughts?

There is no federal law preventing you from making modifications to your gun, unless you modify it into a gun that is illegal by nature i.e. fully automatic.

You will have to check your state laws as well. Where do you live? We might be able to help you with that.

Sounds like you're worried about how the modifications will matter when and if you need to use your gun. If you don't get into any questionable shootings you won't have to worry period, second off don't do anything that will look bad like putting a slide cover that says "You're Fu**ed". Anything that can be used against your mindset before a shooting will be used against you. I wouldn't put a punisher logo on there either but something like a football logo wouldn't hurt.

I've seen a barrel before that says "smile and wait for the flash", that is would also probably be a bad idea.

I would also be cautious about removing any internal safetys unless the manufacturer makes a specific kit for it such as converting a Beretta 92 from a manual safety to a G style decocker only.

Modifying sights shouldn't matter especially since manufacturers have multiple options from the factory.

Also if you don't want to convert any magazines above the allowed limit for your state, but that won't matter for the shield since the +2 Magguts makes it maximum of 10+1 which is at the limit

Yes I am worried about the extra mod capacity if I should have to use my gun in a self defense situation. Also, I live in NC.

Good advice about not making anything look menacing.

The look of a gun, or modification, has never put anyone in prison when the shoot was otherwise legit.

How would using magguts be considered altering your firearm ? Single stack isn't considered high capacity. Is a magazine mod part of the "firearm" in the sense that it does not actually modify any working parts on a gun itself . To me it's more like one is 7 rd mag one is a 8 rd etc.

Trials aren't decided by facts they're decided by juries. Just don't do anything that makes you look like a bloodthirsty jerk and you'll be fine. Extra bullets in a magazine are for the same purpose as extra magazines. You never know how many bullets you'll need to save your life or that of another in advance. Unless the prosecutor is a neophyte he won't even bring that one up.

NC has no restrictions on mag capacity at this point in time.

Using Magguts extension springs is no different than using a plus one or plus 2 floorplate extension.

You are good to go with them.
