Rented a Shield 45 Today
I am a current owner of a Shield 9mm. I am a former owner of a Shield 40. My local range had a Shield 45 rental available so I decided to give it a try this morning. I was very impressed with the way it shot. I was expecting more recoil than the Shield 40. This was not the case. I never liked the way my 40 shot. It always felt (to me) like it was too powerful of a round for the gun. I am sure it was just my imagination, but I could not get comfortable shooting it. I traded it for the Shield 9 and never looked back. The 9mm is awesome and also one of my EDC.
The Shield 45 IMHO is a better choice than the Shield 40. It was very accurate and not painful to the shooting hand like my Shield 40. I was able to shoot decent groups right from the start. I did have one issue and I attribute it to being a rental. The gun had some issues with a fully loaded mag. The slide kept jamming. The gun looked dirty and I would be willing to bet that a good cleaning and lube may solve the problem.
If I didn't already have my Shield 9 and my Sig P238 Equinox as my EDC's, I would consider adding the Shield 45 to my collection. I was very impressed.

I absolutely love mine. Got it just two months ago and approaching 1000 rounds. No problems even with full clip and the extra in the pipe. Just wish the practice rounds were as cheap as 9mm. It's still a little difficult to find holsters but check out this thread if you're looking - OWB paddle holster for shield. I'm currently looking at the safariland - SAFARILAND 7TS ALS CONCEALMENT PADDLE HOLSTER 7378-183-411. Crimson trace also has a laser that is supposed to be coming on market in February '17 - model # lg-485.

A good time to buy, I've seen internet prices from $369. I feel more confident carrying the 45 than the 9mm and they both fit in the same holster.

I use the "REMORA (IWB) INSIDE THE WAISTBAND HOLSTER"
You can easily move it around getting in and out of the car. No clips holding it in one place. Very comfortable.

Happy to hear this. My son will graduate from college this spring and I was planning on buying him a Shield .45 as a graduation present. He had a Shield 40 but had to sell it while in school to help make ends meet. I know he was really bummed about it so I thought the new .45 might make a nice present.

I have the Shield 45 and had the Shield 9. I sold the Shield 9 because of the Shield 45. Same size, same capacity, bigger bang. I also sold my Glock 36 because of the Shield 45.

Not trying to bust balls, but you are incorrect.
They are not really the same exact size. Barrel and Overall length of the 45 is bigger. They do not have the same capacity. 9mm holds one more round. 45 is a bit lighter and makes a bigger bang.

Just purchased a Shield 45. with safety $395 out the door. Was looking to get the 9 but since this going to be primarily a carry weapon I wanted bigger bang for not much more. Will try out tomorrow. Now to find IWB holster.

Funny on the size specs. I held the 45 and the 9 together side by side and could not see a difference. Not saying there isn't one but it had to be much less than .5".

Congrats. Good choice. Take a look at the Remora IWB. I have owned many IWB holsters and this is my favorite.

There is a bit, but not much. I had to do some filing on my 9mm Shield sight pusher for the larger 45 frame. But just a bit.
They're close enough. I also switched to the 45 for CCW.

Some kydex will work well for all Shields.... some will not without some fiddling. The 45 Shield fits well in my Hidden Hybrid made for a 9mm Shield. The gun pocket itself is kydex and form fitted, but on mine it takes the .45 just fine. Didn't have to buy another holster. I also have a Galco IWB leather holster made for a 9mm which carries the .45 OK too.
The Shield .45 is my favorite EDC. What's not to like? Nice little carry pistol. It's NOT a competition race gun.... but it is SMALL and feels GREAT and functions perfectly and is a natural "pointer" making it easy to hit the target without a lot of muzzle rise or felt recoil. It is inexpensive to boot.

I had mine for six weeks or so and like it a lot. Lighter recoil than I expected and functions flawlessly. Has a much better feel than my G36.

After watching the video at the link below I am wondering why go to the 45. The Yankee Marshall doesn't seem to think anyone should be using them these days.

I dismissed that particular Yankee Marshall video already. I like some of them, but this one is pure opinion. I just don't care much for 9mm. End of my story.

Hmm, just another YouTube moron. So the Winchester 230grain Ranger T with an average expansion of 1 inch is old technology?

The reason this argument rages constantly is that all of the various self defense calibers work. You can find successes and failures for all of them.
If you like the .45, go for it. The Yankee Marshal wouldn't sway my opinion one way or the other, for sure.

The .45 ACP is an awesome round. It's been proven in combat. Yankee Marshall has his opinion but he doesn't know everything .

I agree that it's just his opinion (and we all have them) but I disagree that he doesn't know anything. He is former military and former police so I'm sure he knows more than many many people following this blog.

I'm not a huge fan of the .45 ACP, but you can do a heckuva lot worse than a low pressure cartridge with a very high sectional density projectile in a compact pistol.
Just sayin'.
