Default 9 Compact Thumb Safety?

I don't want to debate the value of a thumb safety---that's been done. I'm going to get a new 9c, and I think I do want the thumb safety. My questions are: do all of the M&Ps that have a thumb safety automatically have the mag disconnect safety? I want the thumb safety, but not the mag safety. I also would like to know how the safety feels. Yes, I could try one, but I want to know how it feels across the board. Is the safety stiff enough to not be accidentally engaged or disengaged? Thanks for your input!

I can't answer your first question but I can attest to the tactile feel of the firm click required to activate/deactivate the thumb safety. It snaps into place positively. I've carried it for several years safety on, and never had it disengage accidentally or even fear it would. It's a very positive but not overly stiff safety - imo perfect.

Hello, as a product of being raised with and cut my teeth on 1911's, I prefer the same thumb safety. I have a 9c and a 40c, both with thumb safeties. They both are positive clicks, on and off, never had it undo itself. I also carry a glock 19&23 and every time I reholster I wish it had a thumb safety!

From the information I've found, it sounds like maybe the safeties vary a bit. I definitely want a good, positive click.

Just my observation, the mag safety is fairly uncommon. My M&P45FS had one because it was an LE version, but can honestly say I haven't seen an M&P with once since.

As far as the thumb safety, all you can do is try them until you find one that suits unless you're comfortable with making the adjustment yourself.

I bought a M&P-9C for my Wife a couple years back. The thumb safety on it has been very positive for the entire time.

I'm totally in the other camp. I've owned the M&P 9C and the safety continuously disengage because it's not tight enough. I now own an M&P 45C with Thumb safety and it also disengages way to easy. It is my second biggest pet peeve with these pistols. I have a love hate relationship with them. The safety in my opinion is too easy to engage / disengage. Also the mag release on many pistols is also way too easy to release the mag. On my 9c I had the mag fall out on the floor one time. Very embarrassing. I bought a holster that completely covers the mag release on my 45 and have had no release problems, but it is still way too easy to release the mag.

Other than those two issues, I love the M&P line. Been 100 percent reliable and I think their great looking pistols with good ergonomics.
