New PC Shield 9mm Field strip slide issue.
New to forum so be patient lol.
Bought new performance shield 9mm 3 weeks ago. Shot maybe 400+ rounds w/ no issues. Have field stripped/cleaned maybe 7 times so far. This last weekend field stripped/cleaned and went to range & shot box (50) blazers w/ no issues. home to field strip and slide will not come off.Tried numerous times with same result. I also own a M&P 40c so familiar on take down. Even tried the release trigger method instead of the yellow striker release bar and same result. Slide releases just small ways from normal rest or stop point & goes no further.Took outside and ran a mag through it w/ no issues maybe thinking a miracle may happen but same problem.
Anyone else have this issue and suggestions appreciated, Would hate to have to ship to S&W to resolve.

Does the take down lever appear to be flush with the frame (in all the way) and, have you tried rotating the take down lever slightly forward or backward while attempting to move the slide forward. I'm wondering if the base (rear) of the recoil spring assembly might be catching on the flat or edge of the TDL for some reason?

Hmm, I seem to remember something about removing the slide end assembly cap when that happens.

Thx for your reply, yes take down lever is flush and have also tried to move one way/other to see if made difference. Seems like something internal stopping the receiver as it only comes off so slightly as seen in pic when released..maybe width of nickel past regular stop.

I heard of some folks that were pushing the yellow realease pin down too far?
Not sure but in your pic it looks like the safety is pushed up, any chance that is causing an issue?

My Mystery solved.....Slide now off
This evening compared my shield w/ friends shield. Noticed a shiny spring showing by take down lever/window. This spring came out of grove and blocked the slide from removing. With help of friend we were able to use a micro screwdriver and push down spring allowing slide to pass & be removed. Do not have a clue why/how it came out of grove. Will obviously have to replace part as from attempts to get slide off earlier has damaged.
Thx for all your inputs on my mystery.
Now off to find what this spring/part ?? is called and to contact S&W to find out if they can send part/and get repaired at local recognised gunsmith

I do believe it's called the "take down lever retaining wire". That's what I see on a regular M&P parts chart. Looks like the same thing.

I just posted this in another thread. I thought this was what caused my PC slide to lock back when it was new out of the box (and dry).
LEFT is standard, RIGHT is PC... silver from grinding on the slide. LEFT never had problems.

That spring clip has quite a bit of tension on it and holds the slide stop arm firmly in place. Unless it has been kinked or bent it might simply snap back into place once you remove the takedown lever and the trigger pin. That housing lifts up and and forward to remove, not difficult but just depends on your level of comfort of disassembly. There is a few good videos on the Apex web site to guide you along.

thanks for your input.

I believe that is the same issue mine had after I tried to take it down to clean after its first time at the range. No problems the first time I took it down for cleaning after initially receiving it, but couldn't get the slide off after it had been fired.
S&W customer service guy was nice and we tried several different methods and it wouldn't come off. I mentioned the shiny silver wire on left side might be blocking slide from releasing. Also had the barrel with some marks inside and at muzzle end as if it was being gouged by ammo (factory new) unrelated to slide issue.
Customer service fellow said something is wrong and sent RMA for free shipping and it is now in their hands waiting for repair.

Contacted Smith W. customer service and no long-on-hold...very nice rep sending me out my part...no problem. said 6-8 weeks behind if sent shield in for warranty. Said he has had other owners with similar same problem, no idea as to why/what caused.

Same issue
Same issue. Slide would not come off brand new unfired Shield 9mm. I noticed the problem at FFL but figured it was just my unfamiliarity with the take down method. Customer service quickly identified it as a problem and issued an RMA. Nice to see someone identified the possible cause. Please let us know if the part fixes your issue.
