How Many of you Pocket Carry your M&P Compact ? Better yet How Many of you Pocket Carry your M&P .40 Compact ?

What Holster do you use ?

M&P Compact is tough to pocket carry, unless one is wearing Cargo/Tactical pants/shorts. Heck there's a bunch of members here that say a Shield is too big to pocket carry.

Galco and DeSantis both make very good pocket holsters.

That is a big gun for pocket carry. It wouldn’t even fit in most of my pockets. You may have a hard time finding a pocket holster for that gun. You would be better to try a Bodyguard or something that size if pocket carry is your preferred means.

RobzGuns , Thank you very much for your reply . I wear cargo pants all the time . I don't carry my wallet in my back pocket , I carry it in my left cargo pocket . So if I have on cargo pants anyway why not pocket carry something with a good bite , and round count .

De Santis has a version of their Super Fly pocket holster that lists the M&P 9c and 40c and the list of guns it fits.

I have one.

It also fits my 3913LS, plus it claims to fit the CS9 and CS40.

It requires big pockets. And a good belt or suspenders to handle the weight.

Thank you very much for your reply . I pocket carry an XDS with a Viridian R5 laser guard with no problem . The M&P Compact isn't much bigger . In fact if you put them side by side the big difference is that the M&P is a little thicker .

Thank you very much for the Pic . Does the holster break up the outline of the gun , or does it print like a gun ?

One thing I didn't show in the picture is the "Fly" which is a piece of the same material as the holster that you can stick on the holster with Velcro.

The idea is to adjust how you place the fly to break up the outline of the gun.

I haven't carried that 3913LS yet, so haven't experimented with the fly much.

The biggest problem I have with the 3913LS is the grip. It's kind of long, and makes an unnatural looking "thing" in my pocket. I wouldn't say it looks like a gun, but I wasn't too happy with it either.

I think it would probably conceal well if you wore a long tail T or Polo shirt covering the top half of the pocket. At least if you don't try to wear tight pants.

The same holster works well for the LC9.

Damn! I could never make that work. I had an XDS at one point and now have the M&P 2.0 9mm and couldn’t even start to try and pocket either of those. Good luck. Hope you find a good holster.

I carry either my new .380 M&P Shield EZ or my 640 Pro Series .357 magnum in an Uncle Mike's 36 holster in my right front pocket.

I do a Shield in a Remora pocket holster with no problem in my jeans which, as a retired guy, I wear most of the time.

I pocket carry the Bodygaurd 380 in a desantis nemesis pocket holster. works great! The Shield goes on my hip, the grip is too big to pocket imo

How do you fit a shield with a remora in jean pocket?

I have this combo and it absolutely wont even come close to fitting. Maybe it is my size. As I am “only” 5-7 and 165 lbs

I have an M&P 40 compact 1.0. I have carried it in my right front pocket every day for three years with no problems whatsoever. I do not wear blue jeans, but I do wear ordinary Dockers and Haggar casual slacks. I use a DeSantis Nemesis holster. It has a "sticky" exterior and a slick interior, so the gun slides out easily, while the holster stays put. The shape of the Nemesis breaks up the profile of the gun, so no one can tell what I have in my pocket, thus "printing" is not an issue. The Nemesis I use for my 40c is also the correct size for Shields, so it's easy to pocket carry my Shield .45 when I choose to do so.

Because I have a lifelong habit of carrying a lot of stuff in my pockets, the weight of the 40c doesn't bother me. I think that those who say the 40c (or the Shield) is "too heavy" to pocket carry, need to try it for a while. My guess is that within a week or so they'll be just fine with it.

Carried an XDS with a Crimson Trace Laser Guard Pro in a Remora pocket holster and later on in a Sticky pocket holster in my right front pocket for a year. Mostly jeans. Remora is fine; I found the Sticky even better.

I do not use a holster for pocket carry.

The older 5.11 Covert Khakis had the front pockets sewn in a holster shape. The newer ones do not, but that is easily remedied.

I also do not own any M&Ps in 40S&W, all of mine are chambered for 357SIG with the exception of the SPEC-OPS which is 9MM suppressed

I have carried lots of firearms in those 5.11 pants. The N-frame Night Guards as well as the pug nosed Scandium revolvers all carry just fine

Should work. I also wear cargo pants/shorts every day, and had no issue EDC'ing a 40C with a DeSantis Super Fly holster. I've switched up to a P320C RX in a Sticky now, but carry it the same way. Cargo pants/shorts from 511, Duluth Trading and Carhartt Tappen all work well.

Its too big........ I wouldnt consider it

Pocket carry is a big tradeoff

in so many scenarios, it puts you in a situation where you cant effectively draw

1) If you are sitting....... Problem
2) If your hand is injured....... Problem
3) If you are grabbed from behind, gettting to a gun, in your pocket........ Problem
4) If a threat is near to you (think Tueller drill)......... Problem
5) If you are in a fight, on the ground, someone gets to a knife....... Problem

The pocket draw is slower.... think glacier...... than IWB

I thought I HAD to pocket carry, "everyone else did" and bought myself a CM9. After practicing, I realized that it may be inneffective.

To me, a 38 snubbie, as a backup, can be drawn so much faster than almost any semi auto.

If you carry in a velcro closed cargo pants pocket, a lot of those don't apply. I practice draw mine a lot, and am very quick at deploying it.

And if you have an injured hand, you're going to have trouble with any kind of draw!

Have had my Comfort Cling for almost 6 months and use it daily for my Shield or Glock 27X and it fits both perfectly and no sings of breaking down! True "Deep Cover"!

Sitting draw is much slower from a pocket
(especially with a M&P40C, which I IWB carry, so I know the weapon)

if my right hand is injured I can draw with my left from an IWB carry...... very easy

Not for me. Have you ever tried this with like 5.11 cargo pockets using something like a Sticky holster? Works really slick, even with a 40C. And lots of carriers with ample middle sections would probably have a hell of time drawing an IWB while sitting.
Don't see it as any more issue than trying to pull a gun off your right hip with your left hand. But while this one is stretching, I'd concede that it would be pretty difficult to draw from my cargo pocket with my weak hand.
Again, not in an easy to open cargo pocket. Or no more so than IWB.
Practice, practice, practice (which I do). But I'd bet the vast majority of us, no matter how you carry a gun, would be in trouble with a "determined aggressor" at 21'.
Again, I think most of us, no matter how we carry, would be in trouble at that point. It's just luck at that point if you are in a position to be able to draw your gun. Most likely, both arms would be fully engaged.

But all of that aside, here's the bottom line for me. I don't like carrying IWB. It's uncomfortable. I also wear just a single t-shirt tucked in 99% of the time, so it's very hard for me to conceal an IWB too. And given those issues, I probably would not carry nearly as much. With my pocket carry, I carry 100% of the time where I legally can. It's not uncomfortable or obtrusive. And I tell people that a lot. Find a comfortable way to carry, or you likely will not carry much.

I'd love to know the percentage of folks that go get a CC permit and pretty much never carry after, say, the first year. And of that, I'd like to know how many stopped because they could not find a non-obtrusive, comfortable way to carry. I'd bet it's a pretty significant number.

This is one of the cases where size does matter

I have seen a very tall person, able to pocket carry something that wouldnt work for a 5ft 3 inch person...... taller person, usually means bigger pockets

I have seen actually people say things like, "I was able to get a P229 in a pocket" To me, I am 6ft flat, and dont believe that I could get my M&P40C into a pocket.

I tried for 6 months with a CM9, in a pocket but when trying to access, I would "fumble" (not get a first pass draw at least 30% of the time) Thats when standing. Thats not a hand in the pocket draw.

I found that i was a little faster with an LCR. but would still fumble not get to the pistol reliably

IMHO the M&P40C is large for posket carry, but if it works for you and you can make it happen, then I wish you Godspeed.

if pocket carry is your only option its better than being unarmed. Just doesnt work for me

A Good pocket holster makes a big difference . I tried it with out a holster , and I had a big problem getting the weapon out of my pocket with out snagging . PJ holsters makes a great pocket holster .

But are you talking about regular pants pockets or cargo pockets? I can understand a lot of your concerns in non-cargo pockets, and with no holster, as LLMF mentioned.
It's not my only option, per se. It's just my preferred option.

I pocket carry 3 of my ultra compact weapons in a #02 DeSantis holster...I would only hope that you practice drawing, and replacing, your weapon before you trust your readiness......
