Shiny spots
when I field strip, clean, and lube my Compact9 2.0, I am noticing some small shiny spots- mainly where the lube points shown in the manual are. Obviously from the slide riding back and forth - fairly new gun ( a few mos.), but i shoot it a lot. Of course I lube all the places in manual.
are these shiny spots normal?. thanks

Yes, perfectly normal.
Anyplace where two pieces of metal rub against each other will be shiny. It will wear in a little at first and then stay like that for many thousands of rounds.

Those little shiny spots give you a good indication of where to apply oil. Completely normal.

When the shiny spots stop growing you'll know that the piece is "broken in". Nothing to worry about.

I have a 1911 with no "shiny spots". All the parts were hand fitted together. It cost $ 2,900.00.
All my other guns have "shiny spots".
Like joe44va said, when the "shiny spots" stop growing. it's broken in.

Then it's either stainless steel and you just don't really notice the shiny spots or you don't shoot it at all. All parts that touch and move will polish each other. That's life.

DLC coating on slide and TiAIN on barrel. 650 rounds - no shiny spots. 38 other guns have shiny spots.

What's DVC coating?
Are you talking about the STI DVC series gun?

Whoops, fixed it.
It's the DVC series, the coating is DLC, with TiAIN coating on the barrel.

OK, I thought so. Yeah that coating is good, but everything wears. It may not have worn through to the metal, but it is wearing. This is not an assault on your gun nor am I disagreeing with you. It's just the nature of things.

Yes, it will wear. I guess my point was that a $500 gun may wear a bit sooner than a $2,500 gun.

I will suggest that the 'better fit' pieces will wear more evenly.

I’ve seen a few brand new $1000 Sigs in the case with worn barrel hoods. This is nothing to worry about. Either is holster rub. It’s a gun.

Just curious....does a $2500.00 gun kill better than a $500.00 gun....

I’d say it’s hard to kill from a locked safe.

This has gone way off the topic here. Suffice it to say that there's more to an expensive gun than money.
It will be more reliable.
It will last longer.
It will have a better trigger.
It will wear more evenly which means it will stay "new" longer.
Because of all these things, and more, you will generally shoot it better. Because you shoot it better, you're more likely to put the rounds where they need to go. Because you'll be more accurate and precise, and because the gun is more reliable, yes, it will stop the threat better. Or will help get you a higher score in competition.
