First Post -- New M&P 9mm
Just got a new M&P 2.0 for daily carry. Shot it last week, several kinds of factory ammo. Functioned perfectly with around 175 rounds. Got a Galco holster and it will be my daily carry piece.
I carried a compact 1911 for years. Then I figured that 17+1 was better than 7+1, so I got into a Ruger SR9 cheap. It ran well, but then I shot a 2.0 and it felt much more solid--the difference between consumer grade and professional / law enforcement.
So now I have a new carry gun.
Anything I need to know?

First, welcome.
Second, try our (somewhat retarded) Search function. Any question you might have has likely been covered here before, even multiple times.
Shoot until you have specific questions or concerns. You have made a good choice for every day carry, but each of us has different experience, needs and wants. You might get flooded with friendly suggestions that may not apply for you.

Just recently purchased my second M P 2.0 in 9MM. One has external safety and one don't. I IWB carry them sometimes. Good guns. My first one has been flawless and I have not fired the latest one yet. Have high hopes for it.
IMO, you made a good choice. I like my 2 much better than the Glocks.

Welcome from Colorado. I've rented the m&p once. Good shooter and I'd have one of I didn't already have a Glock.

Also, it helps with a lot of future discussions if fellow forum members know what part of the country you're from. You don't have to put down a specific town or street address - obviously , but it would be nice if you would update your personal profile with the very least, the region of the country you're from. Thanks for your consideration.
Welcome to the forum.

Second range trip for the new M&P.
Ammo fired was:
Federal American Eagle 147 FMJ
Federal American Eagle 124 FMJ
R-P 115 JHP
Browning 147 FMJ
Federal Champion 115 FMJ
Israeli IMI 124 FMJ
Nary a stutter. I reckon I have myself a carry gun.

Hi Univibe,
Based on the selection of ammunition you have tried out so far, have you been able to identify a bullet weight preference for your 2.0 in regards to accuracy or point of impact? Just curious; and I realize that all guns are individuals.
Thanks for any reply you can provide.

No. Accuracy is so-so with all ammo tried, minute of man in a confrontation, not to be compared with a tuned 1911 or a .22 target pistol. All ammo impacted about 3 inches low at 7 yards.
THIRD TRIP TO RANGE:
Shot handloads, 124 grain hardcast over 4.7 grains AA5. Not a stumble with those loads. This gun is flawless so far.

2 points:
1. Try lining up the dots center the rear dots with the front dot and put the front dot in the center of the bullseye. You need to shoot with both eyes open for this. At 10 yards, my gun shoots way low when I line up the top of the sights with the center of the bullseye (1911 style) but dead on when I line up the center dots and put the front dot on the bullseye.
2. The trigger does not break at the rear of the trigger guard like your 1911 or 22LR. It breaks about 2/3 the way back and continues to move quite a bit before it contacts the rear of its travel. This requires a straight back follow through. If your groups are tight but directly above or below the bullseye, your follow through is OK, you just need to adjust your sight picture. If it's along the center line but spread around, you need to work on the follow through.
It was years before I became consistently accurate with my M&P40 but not long once I learned that a straight back follow through was critical to multiple shot accuracy with this gun. I'm talking about 4" down to 2" at 10 yards offhand. For defense, 4" is more than good enough but a good 2" group with all 10 shots is what I wanted and finally got.
An Apex FSS trigger kit helped, but once I got the technique down, I had the same accuracy with the original trigger parts when I put it back in.
Try it yourself while you're shooting your 1911 or 22LR. Are you feeling side pressure on your finger as you squeeze the trigger? If so, you need to break that habit in order to be accurate with a striker fired pistol.
Congratulations on your new gun.

Great point! I found the same method useful, even with my M&P 22 Compact.
