Just got the 9 EZ and went to the range and it would appear it does not like TulAmmo ammo. Failures to feed in both magazines. Not everytime 3 or 4 times a mag. Will be trying other practice ammo choices, just wondering if anyone else experienced this issue? It ran Hornady Critical Duty with no problems.

Many guns work great with steel case ammo like Tul. But there is a reason people pay more for brass case ammo. Some guns have trouble with the steel case stuff but work fine with everything else.

Not sure if you are new to guns or just new to the forum. If you are a new gun owner be aware that how you hold the gun can make a big difference. If you hold the gun loosely the energy that should be moving the slide back will be wasted by flipping the whole gun up and it will not work well. If you are not doing so already try gripping the gun as hard as you can next time you go to the range and see if it works better.

Thanks for the reply. No not new to guns been shooting for over 40 yrs. I know some have issues with certain ammo and this appears to be the case with mine. It shoots aluminum and brass fine. I was just wondering if anyone else experienced this issue.

The 9EZ owners manual strongly recommends against using steel or aluminum cased ammo. I have read up on the issue of brass versus steel/aluminum and most of what I read cites the problem with non-brass cases is the reduced lubricity compared to brass or nickel cases.
Reduced lubricity can put extra stress on the extractor during fired case extraction and damage it and or cause the extractor to rip through the cause rim and you get a FTE.

Not claiming to be an expert, just my 2 cents worth.

I went back to the ammo section of my manual again and don't see this. Could you tell me the page its on please. I know a lot of folks don't like or shoot steel case and I'm not here about that. I was just asking if anyone else had an issue with this ammo. Also my issue is not a failure to extract its a failure to feed.

I shoot steel case in some of my rifles but stick to brass in the handguns.
Reason being steel doesn't contract after firing as much as brass, and is harder on your extractor.
Rifles have much more extractor power than handguns.

But I think your main issue is just the brand of steel case you are using.
In the rifle calibers I shoot, Tula is the worst by far. It is dirtier, less accurate, lower velocity and primer seating depth is inconsistent.

Do yourself a favor (and your pistol) and try another brand of Russian ammo, any brand. Silver Bear is the most consistent I've tried, cleaner, easier to ignite and way more accurate.
Tula is bottom of the barrel.

Right ammo for M&P Shield 9

Is Winchester 115 Target ammo safe/recommended to use in my Shield? Also,is Blazer 124 gr good to use as carry ammo?. Got these during the ammo shortage.

All Winchester ammo is SAAMI spec and safe to shoot in your Shield. Steel cased ammo has been know to wear parts quicker as does +P ammo.

Blazer 124gr FMJ/ball? Not a great carry ammo choice, but better than nothing. Look for a quality Jacketed HollowPoint for carry. Hornady 115gr FTX, Sig 124/147gr HP, Fed 124gr HST etc.

I'm not surprised that you've had good luck with Hornady Critical Duty. I have an ammo-picky Shield 9 1.0 (not an EZ), but it has fired nearly 400 rounds of Critical Duty 135g +P without a single failure. So that's what I carry in it.

As to range ammo, I like Winchester NATO rounds. They are by far the most accurate rounds I shoot from my Shield 9.

Pazzo (above) is correct. Choose a good hollow point for carry. Here is a link to a list of hollow-point rounds that have performed well as self-defense ammo:

Service Caliber Handgun Duty and Self-Defense Ammo

Start with one of these rounds and fire a box or two with your Shield to make sure they fire accurately and reliably. If you have problems, choose another round. If you can fire 100 rounds without an issue, then you've found your carry ammo.

I realize that ammo is hard to find right now, but if you're willing to buy on line, the Ammo Seek website can help you identify sellers with ammo in stock. Here's a link to Ammo Seek:

Another good listing of carry ammo results are the Lucky Gunner tests.
There are some surprises there.
In 9mm, the 147 grain Gold Dots didn't expand at all. neither did the Ranger-Ts.
(In .40 and .45 the Gold Dots and Ranger-Ts do much better.)

Some 9mm loads, like the Hornady and Foicchi ammo loaded with XTPs only expand .42 to .49 caliber while penetrating 16 to 18 inches.

I bought a box of Remington Ultimate Defense thinking they are a Golden Saber bullet so they must be good, right ?
Got home and looked at the chart, and the "Ultimate Defense" expanded to .35 caliber. Not one bit of expansion.

The 124 grain Golden Sabers all shed their jackets and only expanded to .43 caliber, while the same bullet in a +P load pushed 60 fps. faster, expanded to .66 caliber and didn't shed their jackets. Go figure.

The Federal HSTs, no matter what weigh or starting velocity, expand to .61 to .71 caliber while still penetrating 17 to 19 inches.
Lesson ? If you are going to carry a 9mm, stoke it with HSTs.
