Given the choice between a Trijicon SA39-C-600716 sight and a TruGlo TFX Pro sight for a Shield 9 mm, which would you choose? Why? Other suggestion?

Debating which sight to get. Went to the range last Friday, holy cow did these old eyes change since the last time at the range. Need to do something to pick out the front sight quicker/easier. Didn't shoot bad, just hard to pick up the target.

AmeriGlo Tridium I-Dot would be my choice and I have them on my Shield and I absolutely love them, they make for a very fast sight acquisition and very simple and effective sight picture. I'd at least give them a look, I am so glad I did!

I just had the night sights on my 2.0 replaced with TruGlo fiber optics a real improvement for me , pistol is for the range so night sights not needed. The night sights that were on the 2.0 stamped TG-H3 looked a little brighter than Trijicons on my M&P 1.0

Ameriglo Hackathorn sights.

After installing TFO sights on one of my semi's I was so pleased that after that I sold pretty much any semi that couldn't take them. I'm closing on seventy and Truglow sights have put the fun back in shooting. Besides being night sights they are also fiber optic. Below is a pic of my P220 looking over the sights in front of a window on an overcast day (Oregon Coast).

I also have TFOs on all of my M&Ps. I'll pick up a friend's gun that has plain black sights and I have a hard time seeing them after using the TFOs.
As a bonus, they glow great in the dark too, with the green front sight glowing brighter than the yellow rear dots.

I'm 63 and can see well at distance, but up close I need some help.
The TFOs (not the Pros) can be had for $70 a set on Amazon, so I can afford to have them on all my pistols.

It’s personal taste/preference. I had Trijicon Night sites come with my 9mm Shield 1.0.
Upside is they can be re-lamped when they become dull for half the price of new ones, down side for me was my eyes wanted to focus on the bright white ring that surrounds the insert (daytime range use). In an actual self defense situation however, you will be focusing on the front sight & your target (white ring should be no issue nor is it an problem at night).

I have Novak night sights on a Glock that have to be replaced (can’t be
re-lamped). I like the Novac (same style as the Trijicon) better. JMO

Also you may want to look at reviews and YouTube Videos. There have been reports of the tubes coming out due to severe recoil on some sights.
I would try to find a store where you could look at both and see what you
like. My vote is the Trijicon sights. JMO

FWIW, Ken Hackathorn designed the sight to be more visible for, ahem, "older" folks who may have more difficulty seeing the front sight.



I've got a similar Ameriglo set on my Beretta PX4 Compact and like it quite a bit.

How many guns are too many?

TruGlo would be my my choice. I use the Pro Night Orange and the Pro Day/Night Orange. As a bonus they have great customer service

While I love my Tru-Glo sights, I just bought a G 48 that came with Ameriglo Bold Tritium sights.
I don't like the Ameriglos at night because all 3 dots are green. Having the front sight a different color (like the Tru-Glo) at night is the way to go.

But in the daylight, the Tru-Glos are a bit busy, with all 3 dots glowing.
The Ameriglo has just the front sight standing out, a red ring.
I like it, it is less distracting, and you concentrate on just the front sight better.

That's the reason I like the tritium/orange front sight and plain black rear sight. Simple, and focus goes to the front sight.

My Sig 226 Legion (9mm) came w/ Trijicon green dot night sights. Very pleased with them. At age 63 and wearing bi-focals, I find these sights to work extremely well both at the range using the common overhead lights of such facilities as well as when at an outdoor range on sunny or overcast days. Have not fired them in total or semi-total darkness. Now where available. But, dry fire practice in the dark has been complete success in each and every instance! :-) Sincerely. bruce.

Thanks for the replies, I checked out the Ameriglo sights, intriguing options there. I like the I-Dot. Still undecided though.

The title of this thread is Trijicon VS Truglo......But I bought the Ameriglo I-Dot. Funny how that goes sometimes, had I not posted on this Forum I may have missed out on the Ameriglo. Thanks for all the responses, I will post before and after pics when I do the change over.

Tried most. TruGlo TFX pro on all mine now. Seventy six year old eyes really like them.

I actually have both. I have the TFOs on my M&P 45 and the Trijicon on my 1911.

The TFOs are great sights in really bright light. They work well in very low light conditions. In dusky conditions they're just OK. In bright light the fiber optic rods really pick up the light and they glow very brightly. In really low light they have tritium in them and glow bright enough. In dusk level light, there isn't enough to make the fiber glow and it's too light for the tritium to work well.

When new, the Trijicon sights are fantastic. The white ring is very clear in daylight. At night, even during dusk, the tritium glows enough to be easily seen. However, as they age, they don't hold this ability. The white has completely worn off of my front sight. So, during the day the sight is basically just black now. That happened fairly quickly. The soot from the muzzle just makes it dirty and the white gets obliterated. Now, I've shot this gun a lot and have right at 10k rounds through it. Also, the sights are now about 13 years old and the tritium doesn't glow any more. Still, it's a good sight.


But you asked for other recommendations. Honestly, I like the stock sights a that come with M&P guns. The dots are bright enough to be easily seen during the day. If the lighting is so dim that you can't see the dots, can you really positively identify your target? Also, the stock sights have a ledge on the rear sight which makes it easier to rack the gun with one hand. This won't be a common issue, but it is a nice feature to have.

In the end, that's my opinion. You're already a pretty good shot and your target is better than most. The stock sights will serve you fine. A red dot might help more, but that's another discussion.

Mine are supposed to be the "Bold" series of Ameriglo, but I didn't see that model on their website.
They look like the Spartans, nice easy to see red ring in the front, and a rear with Tritium, but no colored rings to distract.

Pretty cool that that red ring front shows up so well in the daylight, without having a fiber optic tube visible.

Sorry about not posting updates, but having an issue getting the front sight off. Ruined several brass punches in the process and it won't budge. So I decided to take it to a reputable gunsmith to get it done right. I'll take it there tomorrow, he says with his work load it will be a couple days before I get it back.

Those front sights are in there unbelievably tight. I ended up having to drill out the HiViz front on my PC .40 Shield to put the Tru-Glos on.
Good that you have a gunsmith close by that can get to it in a few days.

Can you tell us the full name of the "TFO" sights? Sounds very promising.

The TFO sights are nice and I like them much better than I thought I would.
With a little ambient light the fiber optic part of the light really glows nicely.

I just bought a set of TruGlo TFX PRO for my Sig 365. Didn’t install them yet but I have them installed on other guns.
I never really liked the X-ray Sights that come standard. To me they are dull and difficult to see. TFX are great day or night and are brighter than some other sights I’ve seen; certainly brighter than the XRays
