Default “NEW” M&P Shield Plus...What Calibers Are Available in this Style Pistol?

Hey all.

I don’t keep up on the M&P or the Shield line. Seems like there’s way too many.
I was nosing thru the S&W site looking at what they said were “NEW” pistols and I came across one pistol that I REALLY like the looks of. It’s listed on the site as the M&P Shield Plus. It has a 4 inch barrel, red dot capable, holds 10+1 and 13+1 and weighs in at 22.4 oz.. It also says it comes with a ported barrel and slide and is a PERFORMANCE CENTER offering. Retail is $925, but it’s less if you don’t get the Crimson Trace red dot.

I really like the looks of this pistol! Really a great looking piece to my eyes. It has a distinctive machine cut at the front of the slide where front cocking serrations would usually go. Guys in the 1911 world refer to them as “Hi Power cuts” when you have them done on your 1911.

What I’m curious about is whether there are other offerings with this same frame style. Is it available in 45acp? Is there a non-Performance Center model in 9 or 45?

I think there might be one other called the Shield 2.0 or something.

This frame is listed as MICRO-COMPACT. Hard to figure a micro compact having a 4 inch barrel and frame, but who am I to judge?

Here is the one I am talking about.

M&P Shield Plus | Smith & Wesson

Do you all know if there are others with this 4 inch barrel and distinctive slide? Can it be had in a 45acp? What about a regular production pistol instead of a PC pistol?
All those bells and whistles are very nice, and I’d like to have them, but the price goes up quickly when it’s from the PC. The retail has it over $900 !!!

What do you all think? Anyone own one yet? If I want this frame and barrel size am I gonna have to shell out BIG BUCKS to get it?
Have you seen any others with this frame?

Thank you all and my apologies for rambling on and on.

Have a great week everyone and stay SAFE as you can.

Larry

Check out the threads about this gun in the M&P subforum, there are several about the Shield plus.

Its 9mm only at this time and probably will remain that way. The semi-double stack magazine concept works better with smaller cartridges.

As stated, 9mm only at this time. I have the standard model (3.1" barrel, no bells or whistles). It's a very nice little shooter that's about to replace my Glock 26 for carry. The Shield Plus debuted last month and it seems to be getting consistently good reviews. There may be some wiggle room on the higher-priced versions like the Performance Center models, but the Shield Plus is the current hotness so you'll probably pay close to MSRP until the newness/buzz wears off a bit.

Saw the standard model at the gun show yesterday. The prices varied from $569-$699. Nice gun, but I’m keeping my 2 Gen 1’s which cost less than $500 for both. GARY

They can't produce enough 9mm guns to keep up with demand, as long as that continues don't wait for other calibers as they won't happen.

Several companies have these micro compacts, they are all 9mm. I believe S&W and Sig are the only ones to have 3ish" and 4" models at this time.
Ruger and SA have the 3ish inch barrels.
