Shield Plus Slide Lock Gets Stuck Behind Inner Surface of Slide

So, I've read that the slide lock being tough to deactivate with a thumb has been an issue with the Shield series.

But my slide lock actually gets stuck behind the inner face of the slide if I use more than a gentle upward push. When pushing up too far, I can hear a click sound, and I can see where the paint rubbed off where the half of the slide lock tab is getting trapped inside the slide (2 pictures added below).

When using the slingshot method and pulling back the slide, the slide lock cannot fall back down by itself without pushing it down with my thumb (I can hear a click when the slide lock pulls out from behind the inner face of the slide). And using the slide release method is almost impossible, even with 2 thumbs.

I filed down the contact surface just a hair, and the slingshot method now works 100%. But I often still need to use 2 thumbs for the slide release method. Next time I clean the gun, I'll try using polishing compound on the contact surfaces to see if that helps. Or maybe get a sheet of very fine sand paper.

The slide lock on my 1.0 operated easily with the thumb deactivating it. The one in my Plus sometimes lets me do that, but usually it does not.

Was it always like this?

I think the first time I went to the range, the slide stop would fall back down by itself with the slingshot method. But the 2nd trip, it would get hung up half the time that I manually locked the slide. It rarely did it with last round open.
I'm guessing the contact area started to get worn down, allowing the outer side of the slide lock to wedge itself into the inner side of the slide.

I just got my Shield Plus and the slide lock is very stiff, however, I noticed at the range with a mag of ammo (not full, 5 rounds) I was easily able to release the slide. No mag, hard as can be, and have to pull the slide back to release. No other issues so far, other than the take down lever is very hard to move, almost impossible the first time a took it apart. With a little use it is getting easier.

On mine, I found that it's easier if I press inward on the lever at the same time as rotating it.

So I just picked up a Shield plus pro series, It shots good and I like it a lot. When shooting it the slide was not locking back after the last round was shot. So I tightened up my grip and it locked back. Shooting a few more mags and it didn't lock back. So I concentrated on my grip and it locked back every time. I have a Shield 1.0 and the Slide doesn't lock back on me all the time after the last round. So my thought on this is, I shoot a full size pro all the time and I have average size hands, and the Shield being thinner i have to concentrate on my grip more. I love the 4" barrel on this model .....

I sanded and polished the contact areas of the slide lock and the slide lock groove. Started with 240 grit, moved through 8 other grits up to 2500. Then wiped it down with polishing compound. Added a drop of oil. There is an improvement where I can now use 1 thumb to release the slide lock, instead of 2 thumbs, but it's still very difficult to do.
I think it might be the really heavy recoil spring. Hopefully it'll get better with time. At least the slide lock doesn't get stuck anymore, when using slingshot release method.
