I have tried twice to ask Urban Carry about an OWB LockLeather holster for my 2.0 9mm Compact ... but no cigar. Then I got an email asking if I would rate them for the responses I didn't get. It might be me just doing something wrong ... but I am starting to doubt it. My questions to them were about the holster number needed for my 9 Compact.

Anyway ... has anyone here bought/used an Urban Carry OWB LockLeather holster? This pistol will become my EDC if I can find a good holster for it. I just bought the pistol about a week ago so I am open to other suggestions. I am an OWB only guy and have used leather holsters quite a lot but am open to even Kydex or whatever else any member here has had success with.

Sorry for yet another holster thread ...

I looked around at some videos about the holster you specified and it appears to be a leather pancake scabbard which mimics the retention of a kydex holster.

May I humbly recommend the Safariland 5378 GLS holster? I have been using these for the M&P Shield and the M&P9 2.0C 4", as well as the Glock 19 /17/26 (I have a pretty deep collection of different holsters). I usually use their paddle, which carries high and close and very securely.

This is not to be mistaken with the 578, which is made from softer polymer. The 5378 is model specific to the weapon and features the Grip Locking System for active retention but an even more intuitive release than the well-regarded ALS system and is made from the more rigid Safarilaminate (thick kydex lined with synthetic suede). You may find this combination to be as gentle on your gun's finish as a leather scabbard but to have a very positive retention and a consistent release with just a regular firing grip when you draw.

I'm not even sure they're still in production as they're fast being overtaken by the more universal fitting 578's made with injection molded polymer. But if you can still get one, they really have one of the best active retention systems without requiring any special moves when you draw. I can't recommend them enough. The Safariland size code for M&P9 4.25" barrel to 4" barrel should be 219, that's what I've been using (I have the M&P9 2.0C 4").

Thank you for the first suggestion ... the Safariland 5378 GLS holster. I have had paddle holsters before and liked them ... not so much belt clip models. I will check this one out for sure and I might just take you up on that kind offer Short_Round.

Note: After searching for one of these for my 9 4" Compact, I noticed they also have belt loop option for this Safariland holster. That's a good thing.

It's a real shame, but every single time someone mentions Urban Carry Holsters I think of those ridiculous Hidden Hybrid Holsters that they used to run ads for constantly on YouTube that made the shooter look like they were giving themselves a wedgie when they would draw thier pistol, then even better, the Gen 2 models made the shooter look like they were pulling a bra out of the front of their pants.

At any rate, if Urban Carry doesn't offer a Lockleather Holster made specifically for the M&P9c, then you're better off passing on it anyway because otherwise the positive retention that is the whole selling point of such holsters will be sketchy at best, and that's if you can even find a holster which is the right size to begin with, which isn't easy since the M&P9c is kind of a weird size that falls somewhere between a Glock 26 and a Glock 19.

I emailed Urban about a holster for a Shield plus pro. and they got right back to me. With the number 208... I didn't buy it yet. Still trying to make up my mind. I did look at a few Safari lands as well. I had one for my full size M&P but didn't care for the paddle, it was to big, went with the belt loop.

Lock leather holsters

I have two: one for the Rami and one for the daughter's Sig P232. We both like them. Good retention and comfortable to wear. So no complaints. :)

I'll probably get another one for daughter #2 for her Glock 43.

For an update ... I have ordered an Urban Carry for my 2.0 Compact. For insurance, my brother will use it if I do not like it as he has a couple of Shields and another new 2.0 9mm.

I appreciate the replies as they were helpful. I have always leaned toward leather but still might try a kydex holster before I am through.

I like the 5378 so much I custom wrapped a few in Multicam cordura for my micro belt.

Every time I see that video of the Urban Carry holster I think about how under a stressful situation, you'd end up with a handful of your underwear, a screaming wedgie, and an assailant laughing at you.

Just my opinion here.... I run kydex holsters for IDPA and I really like them. Blade tech for the Pro M&P 1.0 No complaints at all. But leather for OWB carry for my Shield, leather conforms to the hip better and hides better then the kydex.

Food for thought.

I haven't carried an owb holster before. But I have tried an iwb bravo concealment holster and it was pretty nice. You mentioned EDC as in conceal? Maybe worth a try for a cost that won't break the bank.

Yes EDC when the weather is cooler with an over shirt. I use a IWB in the summer. But I do like an OWB better. In the cooler weather.

I just could never get used to an IWB holster. I certainly see the advantages. I have had a couple and have one left. I've always preferred leather for the right side and several cross draw including my 45 colt Blackhawk camp gun. But even at this late stage, I am much more open to trying kydex.

I wanted share my holster experience for my M&P 2.0 9mm Compact. Thanks to Shorthand, I will now use a 5378 Safariland holster. This model comes with both a belt loop and a paddle. I have been trying out both and both work well for me. I will probably favor the paddle for now but both provide a nice fit on my side and a retention system (GLS) that I am getting accustomed to.

I had also ordered an Urban Carry but was very disappointed in the holster that just arrived yesterday. It looked used to me with cuts and marks on the holster. I realize the holster only sells for $59 but even with lower expectations, I decided to return it.

Thanks Shorthand ... great recommendation for me.

I've always been an IWB leather lover. OWB holsters to me, sit too high unless it's a Bianchi duty holster which is mid ride which I carried a 1911 in for years.

As I said, now, I use 9 times out of 10 a Safariland IWB with the lone survivor being a leather Masters IWB. I tried once getting a Kydex, but it just never "set right" with me. Old gun dude here prefers leather.
