I've been shooting M & P for over 5 years; 3 M & P 1.0's now 2.0's with the new up grades after several thousands rounds, of factory & reloads, never had a failure to feed or eject either, they "Run".

So what's your round count and any FTF or FTE ?

M&P9 M2.0 - never had single malfunction. (around 10K rds)
M&P22C - after testing period, I polished feed ramp and chamber edges - since then no single problem with "high velocity" ammo (around 5K rds)

M&P 40c 1.0 plus its 357 SIG conversion, combined: Two failures in the first 8,900 rounds. Then about 40 failures to fire in the next 2,000 rounds. This earned it a total rebuild by S&W. They replaced the recoil spring assembly, the striker, the striker block plunger, the entire trigger mechanism including the sear, and the locking block and slide stop. All at no charge of course. Since then I have shot 5,000 rounds (in both calibers combined) with zero failures.

Shield 45: 19 failures to feed in the first 3,340 rounds due to poorly designed followers. Only 2 failures in the last 4,321 rounds with the redesigned followers.

Shield 9 1.0: 29 failures to eject or feed in 5,850 rounds. It has always been ammo-picky, and it is my most unreliable gun. Fortunately, I've found two SD rounds that have performed flawlessly in my Shield 9: Hornady Critical Duty 135g +P (387 rounds, zero failures), and Federal HST 147g (225 rounds, zero failures).

M&P40 Pro Series 1.0. 4.25" barrel. I've had this pistol since 2009 with probably 5K through it and I can only recall one FTF and it was someone's reload. I consider this pistol as dependable as any I've ever had, shoots everything. After 5K the trigger is real nice too.

M&P Shield 9mm. 1.0. Probably 2K through it. Only FTF was with 147 gr. ammo. 115 and 124 gr. ammo run through it flawlessly. Stay away from 147.

I had a double feed in my M&P 2.0 during last year's LEOSA/retiree qualification, but I was using my agency's range ammo and believe I got a bad one. It had never malfunctioned before that or since. I'm going to qualify again next week so we'll see what happens.

MP40 4.25" 1.0 - I've had this one since 2013. It has approximately 8,000 rounds through it. I've had roughly 15-20 failures to feed. All were using Herters ammo and the recoil impulse was so sluggish that I attribute the failures to weak loads.

Shield 9mm 1.0 - 1 failure to fire in approximately 5,000 rounds. The primer had been struck but the round didn't fire. Tried it in my son's G19 and it still didn't fire. I'd say it was a bad primer. Ammo was S&B.

MP9 Compact 3.6" - 6,250 rounds since 2018. 1 failure to fire. Probable bad primer. Hello Herters, I see your quality has remained the same.

MP9 Compact 3.6" - this is a backup to the other. Only 250 rounds since late April of this year. No problems so far.

I can't give you an honest round count, I've shot my 9 pro since 2016 in IDPA and a few steel shoots every season. No malfunctions. It just runs, everything from 115 factories to 147 hand loads.

This is good, nearly 10K, would you consider this normal round count for a M & P rebuild?

I've read of a few other M&P owners going over 20,000 rounds with no issues, so I'm not sure if my round count before rebuild is above average, below average, or at the average. I'm guessing that few M&P owners have ever shot 10,000 rounds. To be on the safe side, I suggest replacing the recoil spring and striker at least every 5,000 rounds.

Shield 1.0 - 2k rounds zero issues.

9 compact 4" - three hundred rounds zero issues.

9 full size - 100 rounds no issues.

Shield 9mm 1.0 - 3,100 rounds. Had a few failures to feed (3, IIRC) during the first 250 rounds, after that, flawless. Probably operator head space and timing.

Shield 45 - 1,600 rounds. Had one failure to eject due to a bad round. i could hear it was a weak round.

M&P 9mm 2.0 Compact - 1,300 rounds. No malfunctions of any kind so far.

Original Shield9 bought in 04/12.
Before pandemic hit, shot 100 rounds weekly for a grand total of over 35,000 rounds. Still waiting for the original RSA to give out.

Ammo used: A mix of both Factory New & Factory Refurb 115gr and 124 grain.

Only a few malfunctions... A few were due to bad primers and the others were 'User Induced'. Thumb either under, or riding, the Slide Stop.

I have (or had) multiple MP models from full size to compact to a PC Shield (all 9mm) and each had between 1-3k rounds thru it. This is a hobby for me as well and I enjoy hitting the range.
Never had a single ammo or firing issue with any of them; always use factory brand name rounds. And almost all just 115gn.
I also have a newer EZ Shield in 9 that only has several hundred thru it, but like the others it has been perfect so far.

My new M & P 2.0's are Shield 9mm and standard M & P 9mm with 4 1/4" barrel. After 200-300 rounds accuracy improved, the Shield Safety smoothed with little effort to disengage and trigger had little rearward travel and when the trigger hit the wall smooth release. The M & P 4 1/4" trigger duplicated the Shield and slide release function effortlessly to release the slide upon mag change. The M & P's operation improved more ammo they digest.

What's accepted recoil spring should be replaced between 2000 - 5000 rounds depending on type of ammo, medium or high velocity.

Maybe others should chime in while I check primer strikes for the depth of hits if striker might be weakening.

Just another FYI, remember a You Tube Vid a shooter tested a M & P barrel with 20,000 rounds against a new OEM M & P barrel with no difference of accuracy, that was a surprise for me.
