When the M&P first came out I was told by someone from S&W (on here) that everything in the M&P was made here (U.S.) including the magazines.
I am now seeing postings on other forums that M&P magazines are being made by foreign vendors. Is that true?

I'm guessing on a planet far, far away judging by how long it takes to get your free rebate ones.

+1 on the far, far away. I would almost complain, if they weren't free. Good thing they give you two for starters. I wondered the same thing on the manufacturer. When I bought my new M&P 40, I inspected them, but could not find any clues.

In seriousness, MecGar isn't a bad guess. They make a lot of magazines for the industry from what I'm told. The ones I've seen for other pistols are high quality so i wouldn't have a problem with it if they are.

MecGar makes the "factory" mags for Browning , Beretta, and all the Smith marked mags for my SW99 are made by MecGar. They are OEM to the world, as well as selling mags under their own name-they do Sig as well, I seem to recall.

THe SIG mags I have were made in Germany. I dont know if that's been changed but I wouldn't have any problem believing it.

I see some S&W mags that are split in the middle of the mag. body like a top half and bottom half was butted together and left a joint. I figured they were made somewhere else but don't know for sure. I have read of others
counterfieting some S&W items with a s&w logo
on knives etc.

Those are usually the ten round mags that look like that and MecGar is the maker.

Mec-gar does not make Beretta..A Beretta owned company called MDS makes them...
Also, any mag, or anything for that matter, made outside the US must by law, have the country of orign stamped on it. All OEM mags made by Mec-gar have Italy on them...It's not on the M&P mags..
