Does anyone know if Smith is going to follow Ruger with a large capacity .380 mini gun? I'm dying to have one. I like the M&P over the RUger because it is a DA hammer fired as opposed ot striker fired so the RUger is a no go for me.

All the major manufacturers will likely produce their own version of a slim double stack pocket 380 just like how they copied the Sig 365.

How long until they come to market is the real question.

Doubt there is much demand for a hi-cap .380 when you can’t find enough .380 ammo to fill a regular magazine…

If they do, then it will most likely be hammer fire as well. Unfortunately, striker-fire .380 ACP Pocket Pistols have always been rather unreliable, simply because there just isn't enough length of travel in those stubby little slides to accommodate a striker spring with enough oomph to insure reliable ignition.

In fact, Ruger themselves once stated in a press release addressing demand for a striker-fire LCP/LC380 that they had experimented with such a pistol, but couldn't manage to get it to work reliably with all ammo, so it was dropped.

Taurus tried to do so as well with their Spectrum 380 Pocket Pistol, but the pistol is extremely ammo sensitive, and often has light primer strikes on ammo with harder primers. Yeah, yeah, I know...it's Taurus, but their hammer fire TCP-738 Pocket Pistol was known to be a reliable pistol and had no such problems.

So yeah, it's unlikely that S&W will make a striker-fire M&P380 Bodyguard PLUS.

probably when they make a 10mm M&P.

They already made a 10mm M&P, it's called the M&P40. ;)

Ruger LCP II and LCP Max are hammer fired, not striker fired.

OK, how about a S&W M&P .40 Big Boy. :p

Nah, I just can't see them making an M&P chambered in an otherwise obscure cartridge like .40 Super.

But hey, I applaud you for thinking of taking it a step further by proposing a cartridge even more powerful than .40 Plain & Tall, aka 10mm Auto. ;)

But the hammer is cocked and not at rest with a chambered round. I don't like that in a pistol of this size. It is meant as a "get off me" gun and having an at rest hammer without a safety is a lot better when pocket carrying than the Ruger with no safety and a fully cocked hammer and no drop safety. I made my choice years ago to go with the BG 380 for that reason as I pocket carry just as I would carry my 337 or my 638

To each their own. I pocket carry the LCP Max in a pocket holster and feel confident that it is not going to fire unless I intentionally pull the trigger. Technically, the hammer is not at full cock either. When I pull the trigger, the hammer does move back before dropping. It is also drop safe, as there is a catch that will stop the hammer if it slips from the sear without the trigger being pulled.

It’s just that the LCP 2 and LCP Max don’t have double strike capability is why I carry a M&P 380 Bodyguard.
I would buy a hi cap Bodyguard. Just Sayen

True, the LCP line doesn't have restrike capability. However I have never trained to pull the trigger again on a semi-auto when I get a click instead of a bang.

Carried a M&P 40 cal when in uniform and a Glock 30/19 at other times out
of uniform. You are totally correct in your statement cyphertext but these
are large guns that can be cleared fairly easily if the gun misfires.

On the other hand, a small gun like the LCP 2, M&P 380 and others have
a very small slide. Under stress with sweaty hands etc., you might not be able to rack
the slide to clear the gun for any number of reasons in time to get off that life saving shot.
In shooting thousands of rounds over 50 years, I have only had 1 misfire
with a small gun like mentioned above and that second trigger pull set
the round off in less than a second. Just Sayen.

I DON'T use a pocket holster! If I did, I'd feel comfortable with the Ruger. Thought I had made that clear. I LIKE the Ruger, it's just not for me.

I hope so, but only because I enjoy the posts of those who can't immediately buy a dozen extra magazines . . .
